Hi There!

The LA Times contacted me a few weeks ago about using one or more of my eagle photos for a travel article about the Skagit River and the Eagles. The article ran Jan. 15, 2006 and they just sent me a copy. It was a bit hard to scan but as you will see, they printed a LARGE photo.... The maximum for stock photography compensation! ,-)

thanks Noel:

Trick is that you need to create an action set. Actions themselves don't seem to have the save option. Once I created a set and put my actions in the set, the "save action" option became available.

Thanks, I could have rubbed my head shiny over this one!

Hi Jim,

Photoshop actions data is kept somewhere in either the registry or some kind of encoded preferences file, but not in .atn files.

To save an action file you have to click on the action set, then choose the (>) button at the upper-right of the actions palette, then choose "Save Actions".  You can deposit the .atn file anywhere you like.  I recommend you keep your .atn files somewhere NOT in the Photoshop installation area (i.e., choose a folder NOT under Program Files).

I recommend you save all of them so as not to lose your actions should Photoshop hiccup and reinitialize its setup (which does happen though rarely).

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I'm on a vacation trip at the moment, and may not get to where I can see my eMail for a week or more.  I've set my eMail program up to respond to you with this message so you don't think I'm ignoring you.

If you have questions or difficulties with my actions, please check the ReadMe.txt file I sent with the set.  There's a lot of good info in there.

Rest assured your message is in my inbox and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

My apologies for the delay.

I got out a bit too much lately.. hehe
I'm fine, just pooped now. I went to Oregon on Oct 19th for the new
grandbaby's birth. Leif was born Oct 27th and I got to be there. His
proud parents are my oldest daughter and her hubby of course... their
first child and all is super.

I spent a couple weeks with my sister too, and had a blast. Came home
Nov 20th and rushed to get ready for company for thanksgiving, then
the kids/grandbaby were here for xmas.. whew. This weekend was my
first chance at being home without holidays and family in from out of
town, and I got hit with a flyball tournament request.. whew.

Hope all is great for you guys.. take care!!

the DPI web site renewal has been submitted and completed so our site will not have any disruptions. Thanks to those who donated to the renewal cause and thank you all for the wonderful work you did this past year! I'm more than happy to contribute to the cost of renewal.  Any ideas on how I can send you the money?  I don't use PayPal.  Let me figure out how to get a US banknote and I'll post it to you snail mail James.  Give me your address again and I'll conceal the note so a USPS employee doesn't find it too much to resist...lol.  Or an AustraliaPost employee doesn't get it first....

Merry Christmas to you all as well!!!

That is just plain wrong! What a violation and what can be done.... the
hours required to prosecute and the money involved... Watermarks, SMALL size
images etc... I guess

I have my sales photos on ImageQuix now for this very reason. The only way
you can steal photos off their site is to "screen capture" then bring them
into PS. At 72 DPI this is less than what I would want hanging on my wall or
entering into the county fair.

Hey Mike, did you have some large size images on your site or are people
just rezzing them up?

James

Fantastic effort Brian!  Congratulations on what must be national exposure.  Raised the profile for your young football players too (the English hate us referring to football as soccer...lol).

Dear friends, family, & soccer fans,
I just wanted to share this...
Our Richmond Kickers pro soccer team has made it to the finals in the playoffs.  Since I provide a lot of action shots to the Kickers for their promotional materials, Fox Sports is using one of my shots on the front of their soccer page to highlight the upcoming USL first division (pro minor league) finals match on Sat night (the picture that says "Grand Final")...
The Seattle player in the blue shorts on the right has been pasted in, but the rest of the photo is one of my shots from this summer at the U of R stadium.
If you click on the image to read the article and scroll down, you'll see another of my shots of the Kicker's goalie.
More of my photos and info here... http://www.richmondkickers.com/
It's been a banner year for soccer around here (and soccer photos as well), with Jamie's high school's varsity team (Thomas Dale HS) winning the state championship, and now our Kickers pro team making to the finals in the playoffs.  Too bad it's not a home game, because we don't get the Fox cable channel that will carry this match live on tv.  I don't know if I would be able to drag myself out to a sports bar to watch it at 11pm, after getting up at 5am tomorrow to spend the morning shooting a hundred kids portraits plus a dozen teams for our Chesterfield United Soccer Club (http://www.chesterfieldunited.com/  and cusc.bzfoto.com ).

That's great, Brian!  The big photo on the page, too!  Way to go!

Before completely reading your message I could tell that the player on the right had been pasted in.  It's a good composition that way but technically speaking he looks digitally added, especially his arm.

Sports photography can be a lot of fun.  A lot of work too.

Congratulations!

-Noel

Sounds like a good idea, James.
What if someone who has seen our "tsunami book" or read about on one of our web sites then decides to order one and receives a "Katrina" book instead?  I just had someone order a copy a couple of weeks ago when I had an exhibit at an art show up in Maryland.
Also wondering if this means they are going to subsidize again to have $25 going to charity, or are we still stuck with the $12 figure I think it was reduced to?
I'd be more inclined to do a new edition with some new photos, but I just won't have the time for the next month or so.  After my son's high school soccer team won the state championship, I've been busy with orders for 20x30 poster collages and other prints.  Fall soccer season just started, and this month I'm doing all the team and individual photos for the county soccer club, about 30 teams.
If there is ever a revision, we need to get rid of that gray on black text and use white instead of gray so it's more legible.
-Brian

and they are saying it would be a fairly easy transition to revise the book
and point it toward the Katrina disaster. New cover etc...

I will hear tomorrow....

I also would be interested in doing another benefit book project for the
victims of Katrina. Would lulu and the printer want to do it again. Any
interest from others in the group? Again, it would be useful to know how
successful the first book has been during the last few months.

I’m more than happy to be part of any project for the victims of Katrina.  The Salvos are a great choice in my opinion.  With our experiences in getting the images right for the first one, we should do another in a snap….lol.

Cheers,

Steve
