As the deadline for pre-registration for the SRA annual meeting approaches, the following workshop may be of particular interest to this group.  I apologize for cross-postings:

Replacing Default Values for Uncertainty Factors with Chemical Specific Adjustment Factors: Reducing Uncertainty in Noncancer Risk Assessment

at the SRA Annual Meeting, Sunday morning, Dec. 3, 2005 in Baltimore Maryland.  Please also pass the word on to your friends and colleagues.

There is a $30 discount for registering during early registration, by Saturday, 4 November, 2006.

This half-day afternoon workshop is being organized by TERA, Health Canada, and U.S. EPA.  After presenting a brief review of uncertainty factors (UFs) and historical approaches to incorporating data in UF derivation, the course will focus on the IPCS methodology (finalized in 2005:

http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/2005/9241546786_eng.pdf ) for developing chemical-specific adjustment factors (CSAFs), including the thinking process and steps used for evaluating data.  CSAFs have been used in recent assessments by the U.S. EPA and Health Canada.  Use of the CSAF framework allows the improved use of available data in deriving risk values, and can assist in targeting new studies to address uncertainties and lead to more accurate risk values.  Examples and classroom activities will be used as instructional aids.

Instructors:

Bette Meek, Health Canada

John Lipscomb, US EPA

Lynne Haber, Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA)

The pre-registration fee is $175. After the deadline, the registration is $200.    For more information, see http://www.tera.org/education/SRA_CSAF2006.htm.  To register, go to the SRA website at http://www.sra.org/events_2006_meeting.php  and either register online or print out and submit the registration form.
