Biosketches
Linda K. Teuschler
Linda has been a Mathematical Statistician with United
States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Research and
Development, National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA)
since November 1989. She received a M.S. in Mathematics from the
University of Cincinnati in 1987. She is currently serving as NCEA’s
Team Leader for the Chemical Mixtures Focus of Excellence Team. Her
specific area of expertise is the development of chemical mixtures
health risk assessment methodologies, the technical transfer of these
risk assessment methods through the development of guidance documents and
publications, and the application of such methods to the risk
assessment of mixtures of drinking water disinfection by-products
(DBPs) and other contaminant mixtures. More recently, her mixtures
research has expanded to incorporate cumulative risk assessment
issues. She served on EPA's Risk Assessment Forum (RAF) Technical
Panel that authored and published the 2000 Supplementary Guidance for
the Health Risk Assessment of Chemical Mixtures. She is a member of
the Society for Risk Analysis.
Gary Foureman
Gary received his Ph.D. in toxicology from North Carolina State
University. After completing a post-doctoral tenure with Donald Reed at
Oregon State University, he joined the U.S. EPA where he has been since 1989.
Gary's areas of research with the EPA have included dose-response
methodologies, concentration-duration relationships and inhalation dosimetry.
He is currently Chief of the Hazardous Pollutant Assessment Group within
EPA's National Center for Environmental Assessment. He has been a member
of the DRSG for several years.
Sara Henry
Sara’s academic training is in food chemistry and biochemistry. She holds
a B.S. with honors from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; at both institutions
she won national competitive scholarships. Her dissertation research was isolation
and kinetics of several microbial and plant enzymes. Dr. Henry has spent her entire
professional career at the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)
of the Food and Drug Administration where her areas of expertise include
mycotoxins, naturally occurring toxicants in foods, nutritional supplements, and
toxicology of organic contaminants, such as PCBs, dioxins, nitrosamines, and
chlorination disinfection by-products. For the past fifteen years she has
been heavily involved in quantitative risk assessments for carcinogenic contaminants
and is Executive Secretary of CFSAN’s Quantitiative Risk Assessment Committee.
She has worked on risk assessments with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
the International Life Science Institute and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Dr. Henry has served as an advisor for some ten years to the World Health Organization,
the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
Dr. Henry is a frequent speaker and writer on risk assessment to international and
national groups, both scientific and lay. Recently, she has been a leader in the
ongoing CFSAN risk assessment process for acrylamide and led the WHO advisory
committee (JECFA) team on acrylamide.
