Subject: Student Paper Competition
Are you a student interested in Risk Analysis? Do you have work you
plan to present at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) and would
like to see published? Would you like a chance at funding for the
meetings? The Section on Risk on Analysis of the American
Statistical Association sponsors an annual student paper competition
in conjunction with JSM. This year, one or more travel awards of up
to $800 will be granted to papers of publishable quality that are
presented by student authors at JSM 2007. In addition, qualified
papers will be forwarded to the journal Risk Analysis, with the
recommendation of a panel of reviewers from the section, for
possible publication. The journal will, of course, judge all
submissions on basis of their relevance, and final publication
decisions will rest with their editorial board, which may solicit
additional peer reviews at its discretion.
To be eligible, papers must focus on a topic in risk analysis and
have been submitted for presentation at this summer's JSM in Salt
Lake City (the deadline was February 1) under the sponsorship of the
Section on Risk Analysis. Applicants have an opportunity to revise
their abstracts in early April, and completed manuscripts must be
submitted by June 30. Applicants should be current graduate
students in a degree granting program in statistics or a related
discipline. It is not necessary that the student be a member of the
ASA, but this is strongly encouraged. Although collaboration with
non-students is permitted, a student must present the paper at JSM
and be its lead author to be eligible for the award. Additional
information about the award and last year's program is available at
the section's web site:
http://www.amstat.org/sections/srisk/studentaward.htm
Students wishing to be considered for this award must send a copy of
the completed paper and a cover letter requesting consideration for
the award to Robert Stine, Risk Section Chair, at
stine@... by June 30, 2007. Please indicate in your
cover letter if you are interested in having your paper considered
for publication by the journal Risk Analysis.
