At the December DRSG meeting in Baltimore, it was suggested that we
explore a new visual presentation format for our teleseminars. I
indicated that I would investigate the possibility of us using the USGS
Webex site for future teleseminars; I learned that we can use Webex, if
desired.

I think the use of this kind of tool would enhance our teleseminars, but
there are a few downsides that indicate that we should keep looking for
other options. The main downside is that I would have to serve as
"host" for every meeting. This would require that I am available for
every meeting (because I'm the only person from USGS on DRSG). I would
also need to "train" each presenter on the use of Webex -- this isn't a
big deal, but would take about 10 minutes prior to the start of each
teleconference to make sure that things are working properly, etc.
Although I plan to attend all teleseminars, it would create a big
inconvenience it I were away from the office for any reason.

Also, if USGS goes over 71 concurrent connections during a 15-minute
period, USGS will be charged $6 per connection for each 15-minute
section. We won't likely have 71 people calling in for our
teleseminars, but there are often several webex presentations occurring
at the same time. For example, on March 6, the date of our next
teleseminar, there are already 4 webex sessions scheduled during our
time slot, with ~50 people expected to attend those 4 sessions.

Given the above limitations, I propose that we don't use the USGS Webex
site, but keep exploring other options.

Here are some responses from Jacqueline for items that were on the
agenda:

I’d suggest use of webinars, but I don’t know how much that costs.
Might be same thing as web meeting, not sure. I just participated in
one webinar.

As for expert elicitation – Harvey Richmond of EPA would be a good
speaker. There was a whole session at SRA meeting on this, he and
several others presented on work they did for air office, ozone, I
think….
