Cambridge University Press, a leader in ELT/ESL publishing, seeks a
Commissioning Editor to assume responsibility for the planning and
development of dictionary projects. This primarily includes overseeing the
development of projects originated in the Americas and managing the
American English elements of projects jointly initiated with UK staff. The
work will include managing freelancers, overseeing audio recordings and art
acquisition, and coordinating with designers, systems, and database staff.
This individual will also be expected to develop the publishing plan for
the Americas, analyzing market trends and developing strategies that
benefit from them; commission new titles, revisions, and ancillary content;
and prepare marketing copy and present at conferences and events.
Candidates should possess at least 3 years' experience in dictionary or
reference publishing, experience in corpus-based lexicography, the ability
to work quickly and accurately, familiarity with XML, and a BA, preferably
in English or linguistics. Experience in commissioning, management,
electronic and/or bilingual dictionary projects, ELT lexicography, and
knowledge of MS Project are desired. Candidates should also have strong
organizational and communication skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and team
spirit.
