Recently, charges by Norwegian physician Mads Gilbert, a long time active
Palestinian propagandist, that Israel used DU in Gaza have resurfaced with the
claim of
a 33 page report by the French anti-nuclear group ACDN, including the completely
unsupportable claim that Israel had used no less than 75 tons of DU in Gaza.

The UN Environment Programme Postconflict Branch investigated similar claims of
Israeli DU use in Lebanon in 2006. Their report is at
http://postconflict.unep.ch/publications/UNEP_Lebanon.pdf
Pages 6,7 in Foreword discuss that 32 sites were examined and that no DU was
found
Pages 10, 36-38 (Sampling & Measurement equipment and techniques) and 145-153
(Weapons team findings) and 164 are germane to whether or not DU or any other
"uranium weapon" as Chris Busby and his adherents like to call them, had been
used. Bunker busters are specifically discussed and the negative results of
smears of
the walls of destroyed underground facilities are specifically mentioned. No
Uranium was found.

Abstract-
The rationale for the Capstone Depleted Uranium (DU) Aerosol Characterization and Risk Assessment Study and its results and applications have been examined in the previous 13 articles of this special issue. This paper summarizes the study's results and discusses its successes and lessons learned. The robust data from the Capstone DU Aerosol Study have provided a sound basis for assessing the inhalation exposure to DU aerosols and the dose and risk to personnel in combat vehicles at the time of perforation and to those entering immediately after perforation. The Human Health Risk Assessment provided a technically sound process for evaluating chemical and radiological doses and risks from DU aerosol exposure using well-accepted biokinetic and dosimetric models innovatively applied. An independent review of the study process and results is summarized, and recommendations for possible avenues of future study are provided by the authors and by other major reviews of DU health hazards.

Abstract
Abstract-:
This report describes a whole body donation from a person with a documented
occupational intake of uranium. USTUR Case 1002 was an adult male who died from
an acute cerebellar infarct at the age of 83. He worked as a power operator,
utility operator, and metal operator for 28 years in a facility that processed
and handled radioactive materials. Although he suffered a number of burns from
hot metal and acids, cuts, abrasions, and puncture wounds during his many years
of work, there were no corresponding health physics or medical records to
indicate that these occurrences needed or required excision or decontamination
due to the suspicion of the deposition of radioactive material. Over the course
of his employment, USTUR Case 1002 submitted numerous urine samples for
uranium, plutonium, and fission product analysis. The highest single uranium
value measured during this time period was ¡30 ¥ìg L-1 recorded during the second year of
his employment. A urinary bioassay sample taken before termination of
employment measured 4.3 ¥ìg L-1. The mean urinary uranium
concentration per liter per year calculated from the employee's bioassay
records covering the first eleven years of monitoring averaged less than 3 ¥ìg L-1.
The ratio of 234/238U activity in the lung tissue was about 1, the
same as that found in natural uranium. The highest concentration of uranium was
found in a tracheobronchial lymph node. The uranium content in the various
tissues of the body followed a rank order lung > skeleton > liver >
kidney. Concentration of uranium in the kidney tissue was ¡1.98 ng g-1, about 3 orders of magnitude less
than the generally accepted threshold level for permanent kidney damage of 3 ¥ìg
U g-1 and roughly equal to the 1.4 ng g-1 reported for
Reference Man. The autopsy disclosed findings not uncommon in the aged: severe
atherosclerosis, areas of sclerotic kidney glomeruli with stromal fibrous scarring,
and moderate to severe arterionephrosclerosis. Lung sections contained
parenchymal areas of acute vascular congestion and a mild degree of
anthracosis.

Abstract-
Although
human experience with uranium spans more than 200 years, the LD50 for
acute intake in humans has not been well established. Large acute doses of
uranium can produce death from chemical toxicity in rats, guinea pigs, and
other small experimental animals, with variation in sensitivity among species.
However, there has never been a death attributable to uranium poisoning in
humans, and humans seem to be less sensitive to both acute and chronic toxic
effects of uranium than other mammalian species studied. Highly relevant data
on uranium toxicity in humans are available from the experience of persons
administered large doses of uranium for therapy of diabetes and from acute
accidental inhalation intakes. Although the data on which to establish oral and
inhalation acute LD50 for uranium in humans are sparse, they are
adequate to conclude that the LD50 for oral intake of soluble
uranium compounds exceeds several grams of uranium and is at least 1.0 g for
inhalation intakes. For intakes of uranium compounds of lesser solubility,
acute LD50 values are likely to be significantly greater. It is
suggested that 5 g be provisionally considered the acute oral LD50
for uranium in humans. For inhalation intakes of soluble compounds of uranium,
1.0 g of uranium is proposed as the provisional acute inhalation LD50.

Urbana Central Schools made fairly sparing use of Dr Rokke as a

To help rebut the false claims that Rokke is being subjected to some
sort of government witch hunt or that I am some sort of agent, I have
posted the actual FOIA replies that I have received with my home
address blanked. You will note that the DoD one is a
partial denial, as is the University of Illinois one. They, for
example, refused to confirm or deny if Rokke was retired and also
redacted some comments. Based on Rokke's only serving 17 years with
the University and having left when he was less than 50 years old, I
expect that he did not meet minimum retirement qualifications, but I
have no way to verify my assumption. I also posted the Illinois
Attorney General opinion that I got that helped pry loose the
University of Illinois records. I also have posted Rokke's stellar
record as a substitute teacher in the Urbana Public Schools.

I had not meant to send a message to all and I pulled it right after I
posted it - the letter was the original and not the one where I had blacked
out my home address. Will put it back up when I get that one available.
There are some new Rokke files available though - the personnel record for
Rokke's career as a Physical Science Assistant from 1977 to 1996 and the job
descriptions for that University series. Will also soon post the letter
reply I got back from Urbana Public Schools where Rokke did do a little bit
of substitute middle and high school teaching. Have a preliminary reply
from the President of Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama
(near Ft McClellan) where Rokke taught undergraduate science classes for two
academic years as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Am also digging through
Gulf Link and reading footnote documents in more depth. Trying to locate
Byron Morris, the Civilian from Rock Island who came over and ran the show
and have sent inquiry to Chem Nuclear Systems in Barnwell, SC to try and
locate Roger Johnson who was the contractor who worked with Rokke and Dave

Radiological and Chemical Fact Sheets - Argonne National Laboratory
Forty-three contaminant-specific sheets (29 radionuclides and 14 chemicals) address: key properties, origin, and use; general environmental levels; distribution in the body; primary health effects; and standard values for estimating risk. Six companion radiological fact sheets provide context for: ionizing radiation; radioactive properties; natural decay series (uranium, radium, thorium); transuranic series; radiological dispersal device; and health-based radionuclide concentrations in drinking water and air (the latter two focus on homeland security context). Two fact sheets address chemical mixtures, to frame cumulative risk assessments and the evaluation of interactions. http://www.ead.anl.gov/pub/doc/ANL_ContaminantFactSheets_All_070418.pdf

Greetings friends 11-29-07
Aloha,
The anti-DU crusaders are cranking up their propaganda machine for the
upcoming Hawai`i State legislative season (begins January). Public
hearings (activist circuses) on the DU "threat" are already being
held. I would welcome some short punchy fact-laden articles written to
debunk the anti-DU crusade for the general public (and for members of
the Legislature).
I can publish them in print (circ 30,000) and they can also be posted
on-line at the very popular www.HawaiiReporter.com site (1M hits/mo).
Sincerely,
Andrew Walden

A reporter posted www.worldcat.org and said that if someone was not listed here that they did not have a PhD -- that led me to check Rokke and I found his Master's Thesis which is even further afield from Physics or DU than the Doctoral Thesis. I want to get a copy of this too. It also would be in the University of Illinois library.
Nothing like wasting tax dollars chasing myths .. every
single one of these bills is flawed, but no one dare vote
against the "troops" even though I would guarantee you that
no one in any of these states actually understands what
they are voting for.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seven
A RESOLUTION urging that New Hampshire members and veterans
of the armed
forces and national guard and their dependents receive
health screening for
depleted uranium exposure.
Whereas, the World Health Organization has released
several reports and
scientific studies concerning the health risks from
exposure to depleted
uranium;
and
Whereas, the chemical and radiological toxicity of
depleted uranium has been
a reported cause of kidney dysfunction, damage to lung
cells that increases
the possibility of lung cancer, neurological disorders,
liver infection, and
high miscarriage rates among military personnel who have
returned from a
designated combat zone where depleted uranium munitions
have been used; and
Whereas, these munitions and armor have been used
extensively in the 1991
Gulf War and during the 3 years since the 2003 invasion of
Iraq; and
Whereas, the significant environmental impact from military
use and disposal
of depleted uranium munitions has been found in
contaminated ground
surfaces, which over time will lead to food and ground
water contamination;
and
Whereas, Connecticut and Louisiana have recently passed
legislation, and
many other states are considering legislation, to give all
returning
veterans
the right to a best practices health screening test for
exposure to depleted
uranium; and
Whereas, reliable reports indicate widespread military
non-compliance with
regulations, orders, and directives, including Medical
Management of Unusual
Depleted Uranium Casualties, dated October 14, 1993;
Medical Management of
Army Personnel Exposed to Depleted Uranium, dated April
20, 2004; and
section
2-5 of Army Regulations 700-48, requiring prompt medical
care for all
exposed
individuals; and
Whereas, there is a public health need to ensure the safe
storage, disposal,
and clean-up of munitions and other products containing
depleted uranium;
now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the New Hampshire legislature urges the Department of
Veterans Affairs
to assist any member of the armed forces or veteran of the
armed services
who
has been exposed to depleted uranium munitions or
equipment, and the
dependants of any such member or veteran, to obtain a best
practices health
screening test for exposure to depleted uranium that uses
methods capable of
detecting low levels of depleted uranium; and
That the New Hampshire legislature urges the adjutant
general to:
(1) Assist any member of the New Hampshire national guard
who has handled,
used, or stored depleted uranium munitions or equipment
and any member who
returns or has returned to this state after service in an
area designated by
the
President of the United States, and any such member’s
dependents, to obtain
a best practices health screening test for exposure to
depleted uranium that
uses methods capable of detecting low levels of depleted
uranium; and
(2) Ensure that quality health treatment is available for
all members or
veterans of the New Hampshire national guard and their
dependents who may
have
been exposed to depleted uranium; and
That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the United
States Secretary
of Defense, the adjutant general, the commissioner of the
department of
health and human services, and the members of the New
Hampshire
congressional
delegation.

Cathy Garger has immediately jumped upon the fact that Ms
Prentice was in a "friendly fire" incident in the Balkans
when she notes that Eve-Ann Prentice died of cancer at age
55. Naturally, this death could not have been caused by
anything else but depleted uranium.
Ms Garger is known for poorly researching subjects and this
is a classic example that is readily proveable. I put
"Eve-Ann Prentice" in as the key word and got references to
a number of articles about this distinguished woman
journalist and war correspondent. One of those was about
her being out of the hospital after the "friendly fire"
incident, which was described as a bombing, not as a
strafing, so one would really wonder if DU were even
involved in this attack on Eve-Ann Prentice's vehicle and
further research would be necessary. The clincher however
is part of the interview with her former husband who
relates that
Former husband Pat Prentice: The missile struck near the
car Mr Prentice, who was married to her for 23 years, said
she has been fighting cancer since she was 17 years old.
Her last operation to beat breast cancer was 18 months ago,
he said.
"We are still trying to get through to the hospital," he
said. "We keep getting told she wasn't badly injured, but
we just don't know."
We now know, unlike Cathy Garger, who really is not much in
the know, but floods the net anyway with her ramblings
about DU that Ms Prentice died of cancer at 55 and had been
fighting cancer for 38 years, well before she was a
survivor of a "friendly fire" incident as a war
correspondent in the Balkans.

UK Times reporter leaves hospital
Here is what Cathy Garger said in message to her
AmericanDUST group along with Fight These Wars and DU-Watch
"Each and every time I read about a journalist who ventures
into a war zone I think, What? Is s/he stupid? Is his/her
life of so little value that s/he was willing to die for
the cause of reporting about war? Or,is s/he simply
ignorant of the scientifically substantiated effects
about Uranium oxide aerosol?
This particular murder had Bill Clinton's explicit stamp of
approval. Clinton and Gore were quite good-to-go with
NATO's use of DU. I wonder how many so-called
"progressives" are even aware of this?
Cathy Garger"
Next time you see one of Garger's many sermon-like articles
about the horrors of depleted uranium, remember this time
when she immediately jumped to conclusions and then wonder
if she had jumped to conclusions yet again in her latest
"sermon". Along with concluding that Ms Prentice died due
to the DU exposure, which in itself has not been confirmed,
Garger makes the unsubstantiated claim "scientifically
substantiated effects of DU aerosols". Garger and Bob
Nichols push what they call "deadly Uranium Gas" - DU
aerosol; both fail to realize that uranium solidies from a
gas at an extremely high temperature and except for the
"tank turret" where the DU penetrator strikes, no one is
exposed to "aerosol" because it solidifies and falls to the
ground (or out of the air .. since the bottom of the turret
is metal, not the ground) immediately after impact.
correction the unit of measure for one quadrillionth of a gram is
the fem (with an M) togram, not fentogram (that is the spelling used by Juan Gonzales in his NY Daily News article - Gonzales got his paper to have the NY Guardsmen tested by the UMRC which found this extremely low level of so-called DU -- more than likely
natural uranium in each of them. The health claims that they then make sound more like a sitcom than real life.
Rokke and Moret claim that Israel used these DU tipped bombs in Lebanon - Rokke went so far as to claim that the DU dust cloud would drift across the Mediterranean and poison the island of Cypress. Note that there is
no DU in this bunker buster bomb -- then take a look at Miraki's claims again about DU in Afghanistan .. Muhammed Daud Miraki is a con artist and he will someday get his just due, but for now he is basking in the lecture
circuit with fellow con artists Rokke and Moret

Over the weekend, I sent a message to the DUStory group and it was forwarded out to RADSAFE. I found out that this message about links that had attached files contained one file - "Colonel Day Memo" that contains sensitive information that I certainly should have safeguarded. Please, destroy this file and if you have forwarded it on to anyone, please advise them to do so too.
I also found out that one of the members of the group used RADSAFE as his e-mail address when signing up to DUStory. I have placed him on no-mail until I locate his non-RADSAFE address. I do not want to bombard RADSAFE with any post that I make or approve for DUStory.
I have been really careful in approving messages because I don't want this list used as yet another springboard for the anti-DU crusade. I will, however, always reply to any list member who writes the list unless I have
already seen the message posted to RADSAFE.
Could you open the ones in the earlier message. I did not realize when I sent
that one that the attachments would not be able to be opened when being read in
the publicly accessible message section at the Yahoo Groups website. This
attachment was just a webpage that opened on the link that was given in the
message. I found the link while looking for the group that Rokke claims to have
led after the Gulf War. That group came from this office, but this report was
given in 2001 and the link in the report is no longer valid. I will make not
send attachments to the group mailbox anymore.
