Problem solved - at least partially.
I was reading one of the OS4 reviews last night and came across the
information that the 68k emulation with the pre-release does not as yet
emulate any FPU codes.
To quote from Total Amiga Magazine.
"6881/6882 FPU instructions are not currently emulated by the interpreted
emulator. As a result any program using FPU instructions will crash... A
temporary solution is to install a non FPU version, if the program has one,
but of course FPU emulation will be added for the final version"
OK "crash" is a bit drastic as DU FPU runs but just behaved erratically. The
good news is, the strange behaviour when zooming into an object and the
garbled up horizon lines dissappear if using a non-FPU version. Both the
.000 and .020 versions work as they should.
So if like me you just used your existing installation replace the
executable by one of the non-FPU versions. An FPU version could be
re-installed later when OS4 is officially released but whether there is any
advantage in doing so is another matter.
Of course a PPC OS4 recompile would kill off any emulation related problems
;-)
There is still a pallette remapping problem which does seem to affect some
programmes but shows itself more on DU as black on black window titles are
not very handy to read. This should be fixable by using the OS4 Screens
prefs but I think it has a bug ATM. All should be good by the final version
of the OS.
Regards,
Bill.
