Are you interested in learning about being a locavore, and doing as much as you can to eat foods that are grown locally, naturally, and sustainably?

This group is for people in Delaware or the Delmarva region of Maryland and Virgina who are dedicated to or simply want to learn more about eating local foods raised using sustainable and natural farming practices.

We'll share ideas on how to make small changes in what we do, since going "full locavore" is not only an overwhelming concept to many people, but a near-impossibility here in this region. We'll share information on resources in the area, from the better-known farmers markets and organic/natural grocery stores, to CSA's, to hidden farmstands and tiny marketas that carry some local foods.

We'll help to educate ourselves and each other, from discussion of personal perceptions and ideas to comments on pivotal books such as "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle," "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and others. We'll share recipes for cooking what's currently abundant, and tips for storing foods for winter. We'll talk about our gardens, from a single parsley plant in the window to a half-acre planted in raised beds to feed a family of six year-round.

There are only a few simple rules:
1. No criticizing other people for not doing enough, or presuming others are doing or could and should be doing at least everything you're doing; we're here to encourage and help even those who think it may be too hard to do, not be all "more locavore than thou".
2. Keep posts and responses at least somewhat related to the purpose of the group.
3. People who farm or sell products of interest to this group are very much welcome to join and to promote your farm/store/services, but please balance your self-promotion with your general contributions to the group. Even if you don't join, please contact the list owner to get your info listed on our site.
4. All rules are open for discussion; if most members want them to change, they almost certainly will.
