About the Presentation:
Dr. Vigilante
will be speaking on the human factors of warnings with respect to product
safety. His talk will discuss the product manufacturer’s
responsibility for creating effective warnings. He will also discuss
the principles of designing effective warnings at the “nuts and
bolts” level so attendees can apply these principles to their products
and workplace. Examples of what
to do (good warnings) and what
not to do (bad warnings) will be provided from his wide breath
of consulting work.
About the speaker:
Bill
Vigilante, Ph.D. is a human factors consultant employed by Robson Forensic
Inc., where he investigates and analyzes incidents involving personal
injury and property damage. Dr. Vigilante has testified in areas such

adequacy, openness and obviousness of slip, trip, and fall hazards, and winter
sports safety. His MS and PhD are in Human Factors/Ergonomics Psychology from
North Carolina State University. His research while at NC State focused
on warnings and risk perception and he continues to conduct research in this
area, having published, to date, over two dozen journal articles, proceedings
