I run Compendium with MySQL without problem under VirtualPC. Note that I
have VirtualPC 6, and I have a G4 dual processor with 1.5Gbyte of RAM.

I also run MySQL under OS X for another large Java app without problem. Just
another note: Apples's Swing implementation is not 100% compatible with
Sun's, thus some of the Swing functionalities under OS X behave differently
than on other platforms (never mind the extra Mac keys on the keyboard, and
no right-mouse button). This means that you will need some "ifdef OS X"
statements in the code. We have the same issue with our cross-platform Java
code. So much for the Java standard :-(

FWIW: there is a lightweight database http://jdbm.sourceforge.net/ that might make Compendium universal without need for a heavy rdbms like MySQL. Cheers Jack...
