Dan, I've lived in Las Cruces New Mexico for over 20 years now. There are
several yuccas across from me and 3 Agaves down the street. I'm not a
botanist, I got that definition online because I'm not as good with words as
the author of that article. But the owners of the Agave call it an Agave. I
just call it big tall plant full of birds because the one on the next block
seems to attract a great many white winged doves. And it is very tall.
good shooting,
mariak

The century plant is usually called an Agave, not a Yucca. The yuccas comprise the genus Yucca of 40-50 species of perennials, shrubs, and trees in the agave...
Remember, I was describing them as a local, one who lived there and talked with other people that lived there... not a scientist, or botanist... I have heard...
Kelvin, I won't try to even guess which exact "variety" produced the flowers in your lovely photos. However, the Yucca Plant is a member of the Agave Plant...
The pic of the Yucca is one of the varieties I've seen very often... the smaller one you might see in a garden, of in an office complex or shopping center... ...
If someone pays for the trip, I'll gladly volunteer to head down to Mexico to do extensive PHOTO research of the Blue Agave plant vs the Yucca plant that...
Hey Liz, I'll go with you, tag along just to help verify that the plant you're documenting for the group isn't the same as the type I photographed for my...

Thank you (for the other photographer :) I didn't take those, but I agree, they are pleasant looking photos. But, looking at them, I cannot be certain they...
