Hello - I am very new to digital photography and quite honestly, I really need some help. I purchased an Olympus C3000 and I really love it. It's very simple to take pictures but my problems begin with the downloading process. I am downloading to my ZIP and that is going just fine but when I go to email pictures to other people the pictures are huge and do not fit on the screen. I have read over the help menu from CAMEDIA and I just cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Also, on some pictures I am cropping or zooming in on the them before I download but when I download the changes are not saved. I appreciate any help.
I recently lost my laptop, and therefore lost my method of moving
images from my CF cards into my machine... that being via a PCMCIA
card that acted like a disk drive.
I've been using the little serial cable that came with the camera,
but the performance is unusable. It used to take 20 seconds to copy
64MB of images, but now, with the serial cable, it takes 20 minutes
to copy one or two RAW images.
What CF reader solutions do you folks recommend, and what performance
can one expect from your favorite approach?
Thanks,
Mike
Hello,
I'm fairly new to this group and would like to ask my first question or
questions!
I just bought a new Epson 1280. It still sits in the box as I have been
researching inks and papers. I do digitally edited fine art that includes both
black and white and color imagery within the same piece. I sell this work in
very small editions. I plan on using a pigmented ink and continuous inking
system in this printer.
My first question is: Has anyone used the CIS and Niagara systems? Which is
best and why?
Second: I am thinking of using either Generations or MIS pigmented inks, any
recommendations?
Third: I am also thinking about using the Epson Archival Matte paper
designed for the 2000 because it is supposedly set up for pigmented inks.
Does anyone have any experience with this paper and either MIS or
Generations ink?
Fourth: I have connected the 1280 yet, hoping that I wouldn't need to flush it
if
I started off with the bulk pigmented inks, is this true?
Thanks in advance!
Malcolm

Well I have a DELL laptop with a 15" hi res flat screen which I bought as a desktop replacement and found it totally unsuitable for graphics work. I think CRT is still the only way to go.

We are a journalism school at a small college in central Indiana. We teach basic and advanced photojournalism classes using Photoshop 5.5. We are purchasing new monitors and are doing some research. I am interested in anyone using flat CRT monitors and Photoshop. We are concerned that the color or glare might distort the quality of the photos. Our experience is that with the flat screens on laptops (which are LCD panels) the image is distorted if the monitor isn't adjusted to your direct view. Are the flat screen CRTs the same way?
Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Hi Bill,
I'm Eric and I live in Melbourne. I used to be a medium format man but for
the last two or three years I have been totally digital. Just bought a Fuji
S1 a couple of months ago.I checked up on a lot of reviews before buying.
dpreview.com is my favourite as it has forums for most digital cameras and
there is a lot of info on these about your specific camera. I print up to
A3+ on an Epson 1270 and most people can't tell the difference between the
Epson and traditional prints.
Cheers
Eric

1:USB is faster than serial and can be connected\disconnected without
shutting the computer down.
2: Most cameras give you this option, but why do it? You pay for more pixels
to get better resolution so why degrade the image to save memory. Buy more
memory.
3: My only reason for not liking memory stick is that there is only one
supplier. I think that competition keeps the price down. I use an IBM
microdrive, costly to start with but is the cheapest per Mb.
Cheers

I bought the Epson 1270 because at that time it was the only inkjet with
archival ink. I believe that there are others now. I am very happy with the
Epson. However go to www.wilhelm-research.com for full details of their
tests on the longevity of various inkjets. It makes disturbing reading.

Hello,
--I am finding little information on the potential quality and length of

paper, ink, etc.

If anyone is interested in creating a photo studio in the Beaverton, Hillsboro, Portland, or Vancouver area, please email me. I would like to form a partnership with someone who is enthusiastic and dedicated to creating a new business. Possibilities include senior portraiture, vintage clothing family portraits, and traditional portraiture, but I am open to anything. Are you tired of working for someone else? Let's talk!
Are any of you photographers using any of the Kodak ColorFlow Software
modules? I would like to be able to create and update correct ICC Profiles
on my scanners, monitors, etc.
Currently, I have the following:
Computer:
- Windows 98SE, 1.2 Athlon with 750mb RAM, 100GB disk, etc...
Input Devices:
- Linotype-Hell Saphir Ultra II with SilverFast IT8 profile
- Nikon CoolScan 4000 with Nikon Software (I'm considering
SilverFast here also)
- EOS D30 Camera
- Kodak DCS-560 Camera
- Olympus 3040 Camera (for underwater use)
Output Devices:
- Matrox G450 Dual Head 32mb Video Board
- ViewSonic P220f 21 inch display
- Dell M1110 21 inch display
- Epson 1270 Printer
- Kodak 8650 DyeSub printer
Calibration Devices:
- ColorVision Monitor Spyder with PhotoCal Software
- Noritsu X-Rite 810 Densitometer
At this time, I would like to create better ICC Profiles for the Nikon 4000
and the
Kodak 8650 DyeSub. What I'd REALLY like to do is to be able to get accurate
profiles for the RA4 Digital Printers used by my Professional Portrait Lab and
also the other Commercial Labs I use.
Are any of you doing this yet?
Which, if any, of the ColorFlow products would be helpful?
Thanks!
Lance

Has anyone done ant tests comparing the new faster CF cards
(like 20x) and the 1gb Microdrive for image storage/retrieval speed?
I have a 1GB in my D30 and I'm thing about getting some 128mb CF
cards to speed things up a bit.
Thanks,

for my Linotype-Hell Saphire Ultra 2 Scanner?
I'm using Silverfast if that helps...

I have just purchased a C-2100 camera and have a few questions, and hope some one can help. I did not get an AC adapter when I bought it, but would like to have one. In the manual it says to only use the Olympus AC adapter, but I am wondering if the one I have for my video camera will work. If anyone could tell me the specs on the Olypus adapter, I could then compare then to one I have and see if it will work. I don't want use it if the voltage is wrong and fry my new camera.
Hi all,
I'm new to the group and new to digital cameras. I just bought a
Sony DSC-F505V and I love it. It seems to take beautiful pictures.
I am interested in learning more about shooting pictures at night of
towns or Christmas lighting displays.
Also need to know more about shooting indoors with or without the
flash. I know I just need to practice using different settings,
etc. Any suggestions would be welcome.
I also need to learn about the F stop settings on this camera, etc.
The book doesn't explain them enough for me to understand.
I found an amazing program on the internet called "QuickStitch" that
lets you do the panorama pictures. It's so easy to use.
Just need to find some good things to photograph now.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Marilyn
Hi Josh
Yes Icmeler is a large town resort on the Marmaris peninsular favoured much
by the more well off Turkish people as a holiday resort.
These pics were some taken this year we liked the place so much last year we
went back.
