Good morning, Libby.
I'm really sorry for not checking this group earlier. Usually I
handle translations over on my web page.
The loss of teeth is one of the most common dream themes that I see.
The odd part is, it doesn't have a universal meaning. It can mean
very different things to different people.
On the most basic level, it represents loss. When you lose your
teeth, that's losing a part of yourself. It can also mean losing
face (being embarrassed), losing dignity, losing independence.
But to a five-year-old, it's likely to represent a loss of
childhood. When you're five, you likely already know that you're
going to lose your baby teeth, and that they will be replaced by your
permanent (grown-up) teeth. This is supposed to be a gradual
process. To have it happen all at once would of course be
frightening - you feel as if you have to grow up instantly, or at
least much faster than you should.
But dreams are not usually the cause of night terrors. Rather, they
are symptoms. My guess is, that something occurred at that age which
made grown-up demands on your five-year-old self. And she couldn't
handle it, even if it seemed as if she could. Loss of a loved one
comes to mind, or it could have been some physical abuse. I can't
tell from this brief description. However, I think it's likely that
if you can nail down what it was that really disturbed you, then you
could probably get rid of those night terrors.
Good luck, and pleasant dreams,
Peregrin

I walked over to my parents room and woke them up. I then walked back
to my room and "saw" a full length mirror. I stopped and looked in
the mirror and then my teeth began falling out. I could "hear" the
ping-oing-ping as they hit the floor. I was terrified and began
screaming. Shortly after that the night terrors began that have
plagued me so much of my life.
