Automated Transcription from Rolls to MIDI - problems   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #553 of 629 |
Hello all,

Hope this is an appropriate venue for my question/concern. This has to
do with what I believe are rolls from reproducers.

I have noted in some midi files a tendency for radical differences in
the range of velocities between the upper (half?) part of the keyboard
and the lower part. Somewhat of a "right-hand, left-hand" thing. The
difference is so great that it is difficult, as a music student and
lover, to regard this as "originally played" and intended. Instead, I
suspect that somewhere in the automated process of converting to MIDI,
the process was biased or somehow failed to track the original roll
accurately.

Has anyone experienced this in the MIDI files and is there a solution or
way to re-do MIDI files from the original transcription? If I can
identify any that have this problem, can they be rescanned or reprocessed?

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions! (p.s. I do not have any
transcription equipment - I am relying solely upon others' work and what
has been publicly provided on the web sites).
