This group is devoted to the use of effective microorganisms, aka efficient microbes (aka EM,EM-1TM, BEM, etc.) and related products (such as activated EM, EM-X, and EM ceramics) in agriculture, soil, composting, industry and waste, including odor management, and related topics. EM, aka effective microorganisms or efficient microbes, are a cluster of beneficial organisms - largely developed by Dr. Teruo Higa, a horticultural professor at U of Ryukus, Japan - which ferment organic matter in an antioxidative way.
This list is moderated by Vinny Pinto, a researcher in the fields of EM and nutritional antioxidants.
Some relevant terms are EM-X, AEM, EMX, activated EM, Super Activated EM (SAEM), EM extension, EM extended. Dr. Higa says that the heart of EM is the phototrophic organisms. These beneficial microorganisms are also used to make EM ceramics, bokashi, EM-X ceramics, EM salt, EM Salt, Antiox brews, fermented antioxidant brews and many more products. EM products are distributed under many names by many companies; some of the names are effective microorganisms , efficient microbes (EM)TM, Beneficial Microorganisms (BM)TM, Compound microorganisms (CM) and Vita Biosa.
