Todd Kolins Electric Motor Sport has come a long way in the last ten years. He
has been converting, experimenting, successfully running, selling & racing
electric vehicles of the two wheel variety. His historic win at the first Isle
of Mann Electric TT Race is no accident. He and his team of electric vehicle
experts won the open class which is a limited class based on value. No bike
could cost more tha 30k to make & the winner of this class must give up the
winning bike for that price. Their bike cost much less than the 30k limit. They
did more than any other team with less resources. The unlimited class won by
Cedric Lynches Agni Motors could have a cycle with cost above 30k. It is ironic
that some of the competition scoffed at the EMS entry as being under powered &
under batteried. Some of these same scoffers were broken down on the side of
the road with DNFs. (this included several which cost over 100k) The experience
& dare I say Yankee
ingenuity that Todd's team brought made the difference. The EMS shop in
Oakland has been abuzz with reporters & videographers for the last month. With
a bit more power & similar range to a Vectrix the sport bikes that Electric
Motor Sports offers (now Native Motorcycles) is a very good value for the
money. There are plans to introduce a 4500 dollar(projected price) lead acid
version of the Isle of Mann TT winner. Price proceeds up based on motor,
controller & battery pack.(Permanent Magnet, Septex & brushless motors
available) At this time 40 to 100 ah 72v lithium systems are available. Of
course anything is possible including an exact copy of the Isle of Mann winner.
The 72v is capable of 70mph top speed (see the website for exact details)with
zippy acceleration. I'm happy for Todd & hope him and his Native cycles the
best of success. Lawrence Rhodes.......Go Native
