I checked with Carole Johns, the finance person at EWB-USA, about how
donation checks should be written. There is no difference between
individual or corporate donations unless the corporation has their own
guidelines. Checks should be made out to "EWB-USA". The memo line
must have the chapter, e.g., "U of AZ Chapter..." and it can have the
project, e.g., "...Salamanca Project", if that is the intent. If some
special breakdown of the funds is requested, e.g., 50% to the
Salamanca Project and 50% to the general chapter account, that should
be stated in a letter with the check. Of course the attached letter
can restate any of the above just for clarification, but having the
chapter on the memo line is much better than just having it in the
letter, because if there is a mix-up that information could be missed.
