Is breaking into the video game industry a hard thing to do? Or is
it much like getting another computer position? Is there a lot more
competition or do you think I could concievably have a gaming job
upon graduation or within a couple of years?

Fransisco. To get into a game programming job you need to prove
yourself as a programmer who can make a game. Making something some
simple games like asteroids for a portfolio or one difficult game
like a first person shooter would go a long way.
