Seems to be kinda quiet in here, and the website hasn't been updated
since 1/6/02. I'm hoping this isn't the same as what happened to my

hi i'm reading the book "c++ for the absolute beginner" by dirk
henkemans and mark lee. and it told me that if i get my first
programming tutorial right in chapter 1 to skip all the way to
chapter 5. but i must have mistaken that for them assuming that i was
already experienced. wich is what i thought after i went to chapter
five. so i red on in chapter 1. and there's a section that's supposed
to teach you how to store strings in the string library. i tried to
do so but i'm afraid the section didn't have enough detailed info on
how to do this do you think that you can help me please?

thanks for the concern but i think i just figured it out. i hought
that there was some extra task i had to do to makee the libraries and
when talking to older progreammers they assumed so themselves it was
just a matter of writting well typing the code down. but i had to
copy and past from the books scource cd to realise it.
thanks again!!!

let me knoow if anything new happens with the site. i'm new to
programmming and want to find an active community.

Cool glad to hear it. Unfortunately I have not had much time to work
on the site lately. Dirk and Joe have both finished writing books
and I'm trying to get them to do a write-up about them but they have
not yet. If you join the update list you'll get all announcements of
updates for this site. I don't post them here.

wow how much about these operators and things am i supposed to know
before i go to chapter 4? i think i've read the 3 chapters over a few
times each and still only have a basic understanding of them. i feel
like i need tomemorise all of it before i move on. although i know
that this is obviously good practice, should i not be so concerned
yet?

is it ok to be a little casual about things right now?
and whats a good method to keep all of this knowledge in my head?

I guess it depends on how you learn best. Personally I would not memorize it
but try making a few programs that use those operators.

C++ will give you the ability to do it. There is a function I think called
lineto() that can be used draw a line.

Thanks - I'll look into it. I didn't think I would

hi, i don't actually know how many people are on this forum, but
anyway, i am posting up HELP! messages everywhere. I have just
started DirectX programming in MS Visual C++. I know the basics of
windows programming (ie. i can create a blank window or a full
screen display) but i am having real trouble with DirectDraw. At the
moment all i want to do is Display a bitmap in windowed or full
screen mode. That's all, all the tutorials i have found are "Display
a bitmap and make it move around the screen" or "Display a bitmap
and play a sound as well" All i want for now is a bitmap in a window
or fullscreen. Simple. There was a good tutorial on EastCoastGames
on how to display a coloured square, but i would really prefer a
bitmap. Am i asking too much? If i am, would anyone be prepared to
tell me what i am doing wrong in my own code - is that asking too
much? anyway, i am in dire need. Thankyou.

Thedude.
