the RULES page has been changed about a bit.  things are a bit more precise
and clear now.  everyone should drop by for a quick read, especially the
YOUR PART OF THE DEAL section, as a few minor things have also changed.

there's a few category changes, with the addition of "Cultural" and the
splitting up of a couple categories.  any suggestions that you may have for
new categories will be seriously pondered.

next week I'll be rotating all the ads around on each page.

folks want more, so we'll give us all more.

4.  I'll be coming up with a bunch of ads for separate categories.  that way
you'll have a selection of ads you may use for the different weeks.

that's the simple stuff out of the way.  if you want more explanation, read
on.

we are all now used to promoting 1 to 7 ads each week in our lists.  those
were for individual lists.  you were only getting promotion back from JUST
the lists you were promoting that week.  that's a small base of members
being promoted to each week.

the new system has ALL the members from ALL the lists now looking at once
for new lists.  so from a possible couple thousand members seeing your ad,
now there will be a possible HUNDRED thousand members looking at your ad
each week.  that's the big difference.

there WILL be more categories.  I've had some good suggestions so far. if
your ad is in a category you think is wrong....let me know and i'll change
it.  do send along other category ideas.

I will also ROTATE the ads in EACH category every other week.  the bottom ad
on the page will be moved to the TOP of the page.  so your location will
constantly be moving around on the page so everyone will get top exposure
for two weeks at a time.

for the categories with multiple pages, the pages will be changed around
every two weeks.  so if there is two pages of Mature jokes, the Page 1 and
Page 2 will change places on the rotation.

there will be a page for NEW lists.  a new list will be in that category, as
well as the appropriate category it belongs in, for a month.

please, do send me more comments on changes and ideas.

information I don't have for some of your ads, such as is it a newsletter
list which only you post to, or is it a chat-sharing type list.   you can
see yourself when you find your ads at the site what I may be missing.  do
drop me a note so I may update them.

you may use these...or make up your own ads.  you know your members better
than anyone, and what they may be interested in.

now, this website is RAW....just uploaded about 15 min ago, and there's
going to be some snags here and there I have to correct.  but I did my
damndest in the time allotted, and now have plenty of time to fix things up.
so DO let me know of any fixes, suggestions, bitches, moans, etc etc so I
may deal with them.

There's two subject links which go to mature stuff, "Humor-Mature", and
"Mature Only". they go to splash pages with warnings so anyone accidently
going there may back out before being offended by anything.

a couple of the categories have some ads which are for mature lists.  EVERY
one has a RATING, and the ads themselves have warnings.  nobody will be
signing up for lists they don't want, so nobody should be offended.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE.

This system will work just fine...as long as everyone plays fair and sends
their surfers a couple times a month to the site.

due to some funny quirk of fortune, I myself now have 10 lists running, with
a total of 70,000 members.  I'll be pounding them to the site to look for
new lists to join.

I'll probably also be getting a domain set up just for this site, and will
then get it submitted to a bunch of search engines for outside traffic.

I'm bushed....over to you'all.

I REALLY want to get more feedback about this.  And I want to clarify a few
points.

This has NOTHING to do with the AOL groups.  I was just using the websites
from a couple of their programs as an example.

I just proposed to set up a website where the ads were placed in categories.
Everyone's ads would be placed in the appropriate categories.  Your ads
would remain the same as they are now, unless you update them.  Some groups
ads would even end up in different categories (like humor lists that also
are heavily into tags & tubes would go in both).

Surfers could go and find whatever they are interested in by seeing all the
categories.

What would be required to participate is to run an ad something like this
once a week...

The ad will probably change monthly to keep it fresh and varied, using
different keywords to grab the members interest.

Or you can run an ad you make up yourself which you feel is better tailored
to your members.  For example a recipe group runs an ad to the page of
recipe groups links.  The surfers will see when they arrive that there are
many more categories which will catch their eye.

Even something simple to make it look more like you are providing THEM a
service (which you ARE), like:

Or I may just post a page with a bunch of different ads, text and html,
including ones you folks propose, that you can choose from.  Actually, that
sounds even better.

Like I said before, this can be run and promoted in many different ways.
Some of you already put in a link to the entire ad pages in the program,
which isn't as effective because the surfers see a LONG list of ads, and get
bored after reading so many.  The categories will chop the ads up into
smaller bites on subjects they are interested in.

Verification is nothing more than just letting me know that you are still
interesting in being in the program and still running ads to the site.  You
can take a week off and it wouldn't matter...just run a couple ads the next
week.  If you'll be gone a month we'll just pull your ad while your list is
on haitus.

Now, with that further verification, let me hear from the rest of you.  Of,
course, if this changes the viewpoint of anyone who has already written, do
let me know.

that the listmasters not only find these easier, but with everyone's ads
going out to everyone's lists at once, the number of new members becomes
quite good.

It would also save me about 6 hours of work a week.

Being an easier format, it will also be easier to get other groups to join
the program, thus giving a larger membership pool looking for new lists to
join.

I'm also toying with the idea of putting in a "vote for this group" thingy
so the Top Lists will be featured prominently. But that would be later.

So, I'd like some feedback from you ALL as to whether you'd like to change
over to this type of system, and what you would feel would work well for
you.

Like I said, it WON'T happen if you folks are outraged by the idea. It also
wouldn't happen for at least a couple weeks while I make up the website for

AD SIZE: The maximum size for all text ads is 10 lines (including blank
lines) and 72 characters per line. Be aware that some lists are TEXT only,
not html, so your fancy colors and fonts will disappear when they run your
ad.

Keep you ad simple.  Yes...everyone knows that your list is the BEST...but
what MAKES it the best. What is different about your list that gives the
reader a reason to pick yours? Keep ads short and to the point.
