Big Game Specialist Position (Wildlife Biologist Specialist 13)
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wildlife
Division, is accepting applications to fill a vacant position for the
statewide deer specialist. This position is located in the division
office in Lansing Michigan. This position is responsible for
developing and managing the deer program for the State of Michigan.
The person in this position is responsible for all aspects of deer
management for the Department of Natural Resources.
Duties include: program development and oversight, development of
recommendations for white-tailed deer and elk hunting regulations,
population assessment techniques, development of recommended field
activities related to deer and elk, and act as the wildlife division
technical expert on white-tailed deer biology and management.
Requirements: Applicants must have a B.S. degree in wildlife
management, wildlife biology, or animal ecology and a minimum of four
(4) years in a position as a professional biologist/ ecologist
preferably with a state or federal agency. Applicants must have a
strong background in ecology and mammalian biology. Previous
experience with managing white-tailed deer is highly desirable.
Candidates must have excellent writing and communication skills, and
the ability to work well with a people. Candidates should have a
demonstrated history of team building, and working with partnerships
to obtain program goals. Computer skills, including a working
knowledge of database management, and GIS applications are important.
Salary: $43,800 to $59,600,
