The EPN does not use regular mail to distribute news as we do not
have the resources to do so. We also strive to be environmentally
friendly by reducing paper usage.
We ask that if you need to change your e-mail address or unsubscribe
to follow the directions at the bottom of each newsletter. We are
all volunteer & our time is limited.
Often you will receive Newsletters with links to websites. Sometimes
Yahoo! breaks the URL onto 2 lines & the link does not work. If that
happens, make sure the link ends in "htm", "html", "pdf", or "jpg".
If it does not most likely the link was broken onto 2 lines & you
need to copy the entire link from the newsletter & paste it into the
Address window of your web browser & then click Enter.
IDAHO ALERTS
If you want to respond to an IDAHO ALERT, please e-mail SHI at:
IDAHONC@...
We ask you to assist in the effort to recover owner's stolen horses
& property by forwarding the IDaho Alerts on to more people.
If you live with 500 miles of the theft we ask you to help
distribute the flyers by forwarding them to your vets, farriers,
horse dentists, media, etc & printing them out & posting at Tack
Shops, Convenience Stores, & yes even your local Beauty Salon! One
horse was recovered from a flyer posted at a Beauty Salon! SHI has
an amazing 51% recovery rate for horses reported stolen to them
within 24 hours. Ask any law enforcement agent, that is an
unbelievable record!
Take the time to visit SHI's website & read Debi Metcalfe's
inspirational story of the year long search for their beloved Idaho
that resulted in her recovery and the founding of SHI.
We ask that if you have a website add a prominent link to SHI. You
can read more about SHI & Stolen Horses at the EPN website:

CR Cremations Providing Private Horse Cremation Services
The EPN appreciates the support of Charles & Kay owners of CR
Cremations in Paradise, PA. Their continued support allows us to
attend the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg, PA. We had a great expo
this year with so many young people stopping by our booth, many of
whom had used our website for their school reports & others who have
have been inspired our efforts to Save America's Horses.
Expo visitors picked up hundreds of Horse Transport Law Cards from
our booth assisting us in our effort to ensure that the PA, NY, VT &
MA Horse Transport Laws prohibiting the use of double deckers is
enforced. Law Enforcement needs the public who travel the roads
every day to report any violations of the Horse Transport Laws. We
strongly believe if the public is aware and keeps their eyes open
for doubles carrrying horses in these states we will put an end to
the use of double deck trailers to transport horses in these states.
Thank you Charles & Kay for helping us Save America's Horses!

The Paper Horse Magazine has run a full page tribute to Brigadier on
Page 3 of the April issue of the Paper Horse. Contact the Paper
Horse at: info@... to subscribe & receive the April

to Brigadier in an effort to bring attention to the sacrifice that
Police Animals make to Protect & Serve.
Brigadier
1997-2006
Our heart goes out to the loved ones and friends of Brigadier, the
Toronto Police Service horse who was brutally run down and killed in
the line of duty on February 24, 2006. We hope those working to
change/create laws to protect Police Animals in Canada are
successful. Over 1500 mourners atttended his funeral service.
"Brigadier's stall, with a rosewood urn for his ashes, that was
graciously donated by someone who was touched by this tragedy.
Carrots, apples and other treats have been filling the hallway for a
week."
From Anne who loves & misses Brig very much. Anne is dedicated to
keeping his memory alive ...Please help us & Anne keep his memory
alive and ensure that all Police Animals are protected by law.
Call your State Legislators & ask them what, if any law protects
police animals. Request a copy be mailed to you. Forward the laws
onto the EPN so we can raise awareness on this very important issue.
In Pennsylvania Police Animals are protected under the PA Cruelty
Law.
PA Cruelty Law
§ 5511.2. Police animals.
(a) Illegal to taunt police animals.--It shall be unlawful for any
person to willfully or maliciously taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick
or strike a police animal. Any person who violates any of the
provisions of this subsection commits a felony of the third degree.
(b) Illegal to torture police animals.--It shall be unlawful for any
person to willfully or maliciously torture, mutilate, injure,
disable, poison or kill a police animal. Any person who violates any
of the provisions of this subsection commits a felony of the third

Saddle Up For StoryTime!
In 2005 the EPN began a literacy program for children, Saddle Up For
Story Time! fostering a love for reading and a love for our beloved
horses.
The EPN kicked off the program at Pine Grove Elementary School in
Schuylkill County, PA with the donation of 15 books including Black
Beauty, All Horses Go to Heaven, Mustang, Wild Spirit of the West,
King of the Wind, America's Last Wild Horses ,Cloud, Cloud's Legacy,

by teaching our children to love and care about the welfare of our
horses we will make a difference in our effort to Save America's
Horses! You can participate in the program by sending your donation
to the EPN, Literacy Program, P.O. Box 232, Friedensburg, PA, 17933.

Horse Slaughter Update
We urge people to write to the national animal welfare organizations
that are handling the horse slaughter issue, HSUS, National Horse
Protection
Coalition, Doris Day Animal League & request that they stop
fundraising off the horse slaughter issue, & instead hire the best
federal lobbyist that money can buy to lobby Congress to Save
America's Horses.
One look at the wealthy list of horse owners supporting the National
Horse Protection Coalition is enough for anyone to know that there
is enough money available to hire the best lobbyists available. It
is time for these wealthy horse owners & very wealthy national
animal welfare organizations to put their money where their mouth is
& pony up the money to pay for the BEST federal lobbyists that
Washington D.C. has to offer.
Anyone who believes that effective federal legislation is passed by
writing their Congressman is naive.
Anyone who believes that animal welfare organizations have the best
lobbyists & pass effective legislation need only look at their track
record:
The Transport of Horses to Slaughter Act which legalized every
inhumane practice identified in the transport of horses to slaughter
& put the very people identified as the abusers in charge of the
horses.
The Wild Horse Issue
The Sore Horse Issue
The only successful campaign to make horse slaughter illegal was
accomplished in 1998 by the Save The Horses Campaign which made it a
FELONY to slaughter a California horse:
http://www.savethehorses.com/
None of the national organizations that have been trying to pass the
federal horse slaughter legislation since 2000 contributed a dime to
the successful California campaign. They sat back & watched, & then
launched a 6 year national fundraising campaign on the blood of
America's horses.
It is time for the Fundraising to Stop! & the HIRING of the BEST
Federal Lobbyist Money Can Buy to Start Saving America's Horses!
"The supporters of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act,
AHSPA must level the playing field by hiring the best professional
federal lobbyist that money can buy; Anything less results in the
continued slaughter of America's Horses against the Will of the
American People"
Christine Berry, Equine Protection Network
