Horses Win First Leg of Legislative Triple Crown!

The Horses galloped to victory in the U.S House on September 7, 2006
by a margin of 263 to 146 holding off the field composed of the AQHA,
AAEP, Farm Bureau and National Cattleman and a field of other pro
slaughter advocates handled by Reps Goodlatte(VA)and King(IA).

Passage of The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, AHSPA, HR
503, gave a victory to the Horses in the first leg of the Legislative
Triple Crown. The Horses now move to the U.S. Senate for the second
leg of the Legislative Triple Crown. A victory in the Senate then
moves the Horses to the White House, where The President's signature
will Save America's Horses from slaughter and ensure the Horses
victory in the Legislative Triple Crown!

Our appreciation to Reps Sweeney & Whitfield for all their hardwork
in getting the votes to bring HR 503 to the House Floor and passage
without any hostile amendments. Please check with your Congressman's
office to see if they voted for HR 503 and express your appreciation
for their vote.

Horse Lovers have worked so hard for this day and 5 million American
Horses have been cruelly slaughtered during the 25 years Agri
Business and the Horse Industry fought to keep slaughter hidden and
legal.

I mourn for the 5 million American Horses that died alone and
terrified in a foreign owned slaughterhouse betrayed and forgotten by
the people they gave their lives for.

And like thousands of other horse owners who were lied to by members
of the horse industry, I mourn for my beloved show horse that I know
died in a Canadian slaughterhouse because my riding coach, who also
traded horses on the side, lied to me about the identity of his
buyer. I was a teenager and my champion gelding was 11. Maybe some
day I will be able to forgive myself for believing a lying, greedy,
con artist that cost my beloved horse his life in a Canadian
slaughterhouse.

From the EPN website in 1996 more websites on horse slaughter were
launched which gave rise to coverage in horse publications and
mainstream media. So many horse owners across the country have been
made aware of horse slaughter and share the same haunting memories of
a beloved horse sold... Other horse owners armed with the knowledge
of horse slaughter chose to retire, donate, or euthanise their horses
keeping them safe from slaughter until Congress finally was forced to
take action.

HR 503 now moves on to the Senate. Passage of HR 503 in the Senate
will put an end to horse dealers lying to horse owners about the fate
of their horses. Dealers will no longer have a guaranteed method of
clearing their inventory by sending horses to slaughter.

Thank you to Cathleen Doyle for passage of California's Prop 6 in
1998 making it a felony to slaughter a California horse creating the
springboard for federal legislation to Save America's Horses.

On a personal note, Thank you Cathleen for answering my question ten
years ago when I stated, "I would never send my horse to slaughter,
but what are we going to do with all of them?" You answered my
question and I never looked back thanks to your leadership, guidance
and friendship. I look forward to the day we close the book on horse
slaughter and our websites are a part of history.

Sincerely,

Christine Berry
