EPN Sanctuary Program Needs Your Help - Join ESCRIP & Help the EPN
Randy's Story:
http://www.equineprotectionnetwork.com/sanctuary/randy.htm
The EPN Sanctuary Program needs your help! I understand that times
are tight, but everybody shops & thousands of merchants are donating
money to charity when You shop for everday items for yourself, your
horses, your home, your pets, your car, the office, and so much more.
Please take the time to review our plea for your support. I have held
too many animals when they passed away in the last three years - in a
12 month period during diagnosis and treatment for cancer I lost 7
horses- 2 beloved cats- Heidi & AT- our pet bird, Eva, due to old
age, cancer, EPM, or other condtions, since then I have lost my
beloved dogs, Odette & Aurora, within 10 days of each other, my
favorite goat Emma, three more horses, and pet birds. All animals that
had been a part of my life in some cases for 12 years or more - I do
not want to hold Randy when he dies because there was not enough
money to care for him.
I have donated my time and money to care for Randy for the past few
years when donations did not meet the cost of his care. I am no
longer able to do so, because like everyone else I am feeling the
pinch of rising fuel and feed costs. Anyone who has supported the EPN
since our inception knows that we do not claim to be "in need of
donations or the shelter will close" or "if we do not get donations
we will have to start killing animals" when in reality there are
thousands of dollars in the bank and no animals are going to be put
to sleep. I am asking for your support through shopping and other
donations because the EPN needs the funds to care for Randy or I will
be forced to make a decision that no one likes to make.
As you all know the price of hay has gone through the roof. We are
paying $5.50 a bale for hay. Silver Inflation, AKA Randy, a retired
therapeutic riding horse in the EPN Sanctuary Program consumes almost
a bale of hay a day. Additionally he requires equine senior feed - 6
quarts a day at $13.00 a 50 pound bag. His shed is bedded at a cost
of $3.00 a bale for straw - at least $9.00 a week, sometimes a bale a
day. His hooves are done every 6-10 weeks depending on the time of
year- the cost is $45.00. He needs his teeth done once a year, an
additional $100.00. He requires deworming every 8 weeks-$3-$5.00 for
Ivermectin, $12-$15.00 for Equimax and once a year the Panacur Power
Pack at $60 -$85.00. He is vaccinated for EEE/WEE/WNile/Tetnaus,
Potomac Horse Fever, Rhino/Flu, and Rabies ranging in cost from
$10.00 to $25.00 per vaccine. Some vaccines are done twice a year.
Randy also needs Pergolide for Cushings, a medicine we have not had
the funds to purchase for him. Thankfully Randy has not had any
illnesses. Our vet is donating her time for Randy. Thanks to one of
his sponsors, Randy was provided with a much needed fly sheet last
summer. A caring horse owner who lost her horse, donated her horse's
fly mask, fly leggins and winter blanket for Randy.
So how can you help? We know times are tight and even though you may
want to help, you may not have the extra cash to donate. There are
ways to help though without donating any cash!
