EPN Response to Irresponsible Pro- Slaughter Paint Breeder

Below is the EPN response to Dan Giannola who contacted the Denver
Post and the EPN with his sarcastic plea for the EPN and others
to "save" his horse from slaughter and to contact the celebrities
against slaughter and ask them to "save" his horses. Our response
addresses the horse slaughter issue – the disposal of America's
Horses – not the rescue, not cruelty. It is the answer to the pro-
slaughter question of, "What are we going to do with all the horses
not sent to slaughter", albeit not the answer the pro slaughter
groups want to hear.

It is against state laws to abandon, abuse, neglect horses.
State laws regulate the disposal of dead animals
The United States disposes of 6 MILLION dogs and cats every year.
100,000 horses is a drop in the bucket.
The majority of horse owners are not criminals – they are not going
to break the law because they cannot sell their horse to a dealer who
has lied to them or failed to inform the owner that dealer is selling
the horse to slaughter.
Our response will be posted to the Denver Post in response to Mr.
Giannola's original post.

Why don't you take responsibility for your horses?

If you cannot afford to keep them, and cannot find a buyer, (that
begs the question why you bred them), then do what other responsible
owners do, call the vet and put them down. Or get your gun out and
start shooting. Make sure you don't miss, otherwise you are guilty of
cruelty.

Then you can call a backhoe/bulldozer & bury them in a mass grave or
you can send them to the render, or the landfill, or cremate them.

Yes it costs money. You should have thought about that before you
bought them and/or bred them.

I am not the trash can for irresponsible breeders and owners. Nor
should the American Public support the horses you created that you
cannot support and there is no market for.

The slaughter issue is about the method of disposing of America's
Horses, not rescue, not cruelty. Disposal.

Lethal injection or gunshot versus butchering for foreigners to eat.

As an American, I am opposed to the butchering of a NON-FOOD animal.

As a horse owner, I am unfairly taxed on the feed and all the related
products I purchase for my horses and my clients horses –NON-FOOD
animals.

I am in the horse industry and my clients make the decisions to put
their horses down, they do not call a rescue, they do not call a
dealer, they do not send them to auction, they call a vet.
