IL Horse Slaughter Legislation- SUPPORT!

HORSE MEAT-HUMAN CONSUMPTION HB3845


Illinois state Representative Bob Molaro (D-Chicago) introduced
legislation to ban the slaughter of horses in IL. The EPN is
supporting this legislation and we are asking IL residents to
contact their legislators and request they support this legislation.

Rep. Bob Molaro's bill to ban horse slaughter for human consumption
has been added to Senate Bill 1921 as House Amendment No. 1. The
bill has now been referred to the Executive Committee and is
scheduled to be heard on Tuesday November 18, 2003.

Synopsis As Introduced

Amends the Illinois Horse Meat Act. Provides that it is unlawful for
any person to (i) slaughter a horse, (ii) possess, import into or
export from the State, or sell, buy, give away, hold, or accept any
horse meat, or (iii) possess, import into or export from the State,
or sell, buy, give away, hold, or accept any horse with the intent
of slaughtering that horse if that person knows or should know that
any of the horse meat will be used for human consumption. Amends the
Animals Intended for Food Act and the Humane Slaughter of Livestock
Act to make corresponding changes. Effective immediately.
