Talking Points:

This is a CULTURAL issue.
Americans do not eat horses and as Americans we do not want our
American horses slaughtered for others to eat.

Culture does shape our laws.

Research polls continue to prove that Americans do not want American
horses slaughtered and they believe the practice should be outlawed.

Alternative to slaughter does exist-humane euthanasia by lethal
injection. Disposal options include burial, rendering, cremation,
landfills. Cost is relative to the cost of a new set of shoes for a
horse, which horses receive every 4-6 weeks.

Horse slaughter is not tied to neglect.
Money is behind slaughter.
Irresponsibility and laziness are behind the CRIMINAL act of neglect.

"Bullnanny! People starve horses out of laziness and stupidity. They
ship horses to slaughter out of greed."

JoAnne Mauger, LAPS Humane Society Police Officer,17 years
experience investigating 2000 horse cruelty and neglect cases. 52
years experience caring and managing horses.
