Some Scottish Eagles saved (at last) from lethal bird chopping wind turbines.
Raptor lovers everywhere must stand up and fight those within who want wind turbines in known nesting areas of Eagles and let's not forget other protected raptor species either.
The finger waving, irate tweed clad man who approached me on the stairs of the Coran Halls will now understand when told that the planning decision was all wrong and that it could be overturned. He was mad when told the fight had just begun, that the decision could be overturned and that it wasn't all over.
All thanks goes to those fighting on the ground and others like Mark Duchamp who applied a lot of pressure from all angles, including Europe..
Once again, well done.
Some Scottish eagles saved....at last.
Best
Sylvia.

Great news!
After the Inquiry in November of last year, the Scottish Ministers have refused planning permission for the proposed erection of a wind farm consisting of fourteen wind turbines, etc., on land at Stacain.

for which I'm (3.) desperate for a Dupont's Lark photo if anyone has one. I'd prefer it to have been taken in Aragon if possible but other areas of Spain would be o.k. too. Of course I can credit, link back to your web site, etc.
And finally, if anyone's considering it, following it's earlier success, I'm again offering members of this group a 10% discount on birding holidays and short breaks to Catalonia, Spain (*terms) valid for winter, spring, summer, etc. and I can help find sharers for those traveling alone.
All the very best

To anyone still reading, just a short-ish message to say...
MY BLOG is now updated for May 2009, quite frankly the most exhilarating month's birding of my life. Details of discoveries and sightings of well over 200 species (with photos coming soon), including Dupont's Lark, Red-throated Pipit, Red-necked Nightjar, Red-footed Falcon, Lammergeier, Little Bustard, both sandgrouse, etc., are posted at:
TOURS - if you're thinking of making a trip to Spain this autumn or winter (or next spring for that matter), I'm currently offering a 10% Discount on all shared short-breaks and holidays booked before 31 July 2009 and I can help to find sharers for those travelling alone.
The appeal of AUTUMN raptor and passerine passage, together with the usual Spanish specialities, is obviously well documented but WINTER offers the fantastic chance of watching Wallcreeper, Great Bustard, Lammergeier, both sandgrouse species and may be even Dupont's Lark on a three-day break from just €335.
And even trips in SUMMER offer surprisingly good birding, especially if you have availability at short notice and can find a cheap late flight.
Part 3 and Schedule 6 of the Act make amendments to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, strengthening the legal protection for threatened species. The species protection afforded to wild birds, animals and plants is extended to include 'reckless' acts. The protection afforded to the nests of certain, threatened, bird species is extended to all times of the year, and the disturbance of certain bird species at their lek sites is prohibited. The Act makes it an offence to intentionally or recklessly disturb a dolphin, whale (cetacean) or basking shark, and also to sell a self-locking snare, or to possess one without reasonable excuse. Powers are provided to Scottish Ministers to prohibit the sale of certain non-native species. The Act amends and enhances the provisions for enforcement. The Protection of Badgers Act 1992 is also amended.
