Description

The purpose of this group is to exchange data regarding fireball events and to provide a venue for experts and novices to assist field investigators in collecting and analyzing reports from whatever traditional or non-traditional sources there maybe.

While some data may be embargoed for a short period it is the goal of this group to be a clearing house for reports to be made available to all users. While time is of the essence in bringing together Governmental, academic, media, public and private assets, our goal is to insure all data resources are explored and quality information is released in a timely manner without duplication of effort. Participation implies your willingness to take on tasks for data organization, collection, and analysis for fireball events. To make reports back to the working group and to assist in training others on procedures. You also agree to make know the existence of all data even if the data itself is embargoed. You may not receive the fruits of our labors in the group if you have an "orchard" of your own on the side. You may not to sequester data for your favorite researcher/hunter--nuff said.

Participation means expressing your opinions regarding what conclusions my be scientifically valid without the common trash talk seen on typical groups elsewhere.

A secondary goal is to cultivate a cadre of field investigators with the knowledge and experience to add to corps of experienced fireball investigators and a resource users may tap for assistance.

Membership is by approval so please elaborate in your application your interest in the effort. This group is not a meteorite discussion group per se. Your past demonstrated participation in geo-science studies or meteor and meteorite related groups is generally sufficient qualifications.

This group is meant to supplement other interest groups such as meteorobs, AMS, BolideChasers, DebrisLocators etc. Cross membership is welcome.
