Hi Folks:

I got my camera back about 10 days ago, installed it, took this test exposure and was happy with the results of the tilt fix for the problems I had:

Then we had 10 days of bad weather until tonight and when I went to image I now have horizontal elongation on the top of the image and vertical elongation on the bottom as seen here:

Any thoughts as to what is going on before I make the drive out to the observatory tomorrow? I'm not sure how I could both elongations in the same image.

Hi all,
I have a stupid question: in the ProLine cameras, the two 1.65mm power
DC jacks - beside the power 4P jack, on the left - are made for
powering directly FLI PDF and FLI filter wheels? Has anyone done this?
If yes, where I can find cables and plugs (and which kind of plugs) to
make the right power connections? Many thanks and best regards,

this has been another multi-night project. four to this point

it is 29x20 minutes of exposure in [SII]/Ha/[OIII]

seeing isn't so hot shooting over the roof of the house and into the city muck but it's either live with it or forget shooting it :-)

Hi Enzo:

I do this and it works great, really eliminates a lot of cable mess. FLI sells a package of the short cables, 2 power and 2 short USB, iirc about $50.

Hi,

When I touch the side of the connected camera with a dry finger I get a
tingling feeling. When touched with a wet one it disapears. This lead
me to thin that I have an earth problem. The images taken now have a
dappled effect as though some wierd filter has been selected. I am
using a laptop computer. Does anyone have any idea on how to get rid of
this please.

Thanks,

Well done Bob!

Good to see such excellent guiding and processing though I see your
comment on the star issues with the dark banding around the brighter
objects. Is it from the processing?

Background is very smooth and star colors well represented.

Your detail is right on and the FOV reflects closely to my f/8 7" with
the same camera.

Your now on a roll!

Cheers

Bob

This is one of my favorite northern hemisphere fields. Although I am
partial to southern sky nebulae, I think we have some pretty darn
good objects on the north side of the equator.

Don't want to start a fight, but I'm not sure I'm happy with my
Astrodon filters. Two issues:

1. Reflections, especially bad on the Blue and Green filters

2. My color ratios are really out of whack from what I expected. I'm
shooting RGB at 1:1:1.5. But then I'm making huge adjustments on the
order of reducing red 50% and increasing blue 2 or 3 times to get a
good balance. I'll do a G2V, but it just doesn't seem right.

Can the other 16803 users tell me what they are using for filters,
whether they have reflections, and how the color ratios are coming out?

Thanks,

Bob

I'd like to know what temperature deltas folks are getting with the
ProLine 16803. FLI lists cooling specs for the entire ProLine platform
but I'm wondering if those specs actually vary from chip to chip.
Given the 16803 is such a large chip I guess I'd expect to possibly see
a small degradation in cooling capability compared to cameras with
smaller chips. Any real-world experience folks would be willing to
share with me (either on the group or offline)?

Thanks much,

Jeff

This is strange Bob, I responded to your post yesterday and it still
has not shown up.

Irrespective, great start!

I agree that there is something in the processing or somewhere that
is causing the darken areas around the brighter objects but the star
colors and detail on M31 is very good.

Well done. Hope you find out what is causing the problem quickly.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the good comments, greatly appreciated, nice that
things are coming together.

Bob A.: Don't forget the group is now moderated, that's why there is a
delay, maybe FLI will reconsider.

The dark area around the brightest star is a just a little
over-processing artifact.

Hi Jeff:

I think I'm getting just over 60 degrees. I went to take darks during
the daytime a few days ago and it was the first time I couldn't make
it down to my usual -30. Then I realized the temperature in the
observatory was 101 degrees! The readings were based on what FocusMax
and my ST-402 guide camera where reporting back as temps, so I'm not
100% how accurate the readings are, but I've been imaging at -30 all
