Hi , If you attended the last meeting, you will have heard that FLNPS,
with Cornell Plantations, is working with the NYS DOT to rescue as many
plants as we can ahead of a major reroute of Route 17 right at the base of
the Catskills. We have a definite date now, Saturday, May 2nd. The idea
is to either camp (no facilities) near the spot overnight and/or leave from
Ithaca in the pre-dawn hours (probably both) and then work as much as we
can during the day. Krissy Faust will have a Plantations heavy truck for
carrying plants back, although we can also carry in personal vehicles.

A list of plants seen at the sites is below, but is surely incomplete. The
area to be graded is several miles, including small wetlands, upland
forest, and bottomland forest - all right at Parksville, NY. By DOT
rules, everyone coming must be a member (or accompanying a member) of FLNPS
or a volunteer/staff (accompanying, etc) of Plantations. By FLNPS
convention (in-progress), rescued plants are not to be sold, but can be
used in your garden or in a non-profit garden/project. Of course, we hope
that people will dig many plants for Plantations, but recognize that plants
for home gardens may be the lure to get you out there.

Please let me know ASAP if you would be interested and able to come.
