I think it is a spring beauty, but maybe the wide-leafed one. I see a range of
leaf widths in both the narrower-leaved species Claytonia virginiana, and the
broader Claytonia caroliniana. Both are found in NY state. I'm confused by
what looks like a more abrupt narrowing at the tip of the leaf. Maybe someone
else can verify the ID. I only have C virginiana at my house, so I'm not really
up on the variability of C caroliniana. Had one show up spontaneously in my
woods a few years ago, but it was gone by the next year.
