Buffalo huh?   A good thread featuring many factory pics of Buffalo's has been progressing at the Firepics.net site.  I will have to check there.

Yes. Like a quick action or response mini truck of today. To quickly get water
on the fire.

I believe that I answered that question in one of the postings I did yesterday.
Alas, I didn't consider the generation gap, since a whole generation has come
and gone since those went out of use, and were replaced with pressurized water
extinguishers.

Those tanks on the rig are just over-sized soda-acid extinguishers.

The most common form of soda acid extinguishers hung in the same places that
pressurized water ones do nowadays - classrooms, offices, etc. They were the
same size, i.e, 2.5 gallons, with a pretty much identical hose. The difference
was that there was a screw-on cap at the top, around 3" dia., to change the acid
bottle inside.

The contents were a water-bicarbonate of soda mix, and the screw-on cap had a
bracket inside in which there was a glass bottle with about a pint of sulfuric
acid.

The directions said to turn the extinguisher upside down, and aim the hose at
the base of the fire. Internally, the action that resulted was that the
sulfuric acid reacted with the bicarbonate of soda solution, producing a
pressure which resulted in a stream of about 5 or 6 feet, as I recall.

The tanks that you see on the Ridgeway rig were, as I said, oversized soda acid
extinguishers.

The difference that that the cap was on the side, and wheels that you see at the
end of each chemical tank were used to turn the acid bottle upside down to start
the reaction.

Here is a 1934 Ford, I believe a chemical wagon, in apparent original unrestored
condition, marked "Ridgeway" on the side. It's owned by Bill Sondermeyer of
Newfoundland NJ, one of our first aid squad members and son of a past chief of
Bloomingdale NJ Fire Department. Each year on the 4th of July Bill and his wife
host over 100 guests at their isolated country home for a super picnic to
celebrate America's birthday. Bill is also president of Five Star Fire
Protection, Inc., which installs and maintains fire sprinklers throughout NJ,
NY, PA and CT.

Brian,

We are both right.  It is the sodium bicard that mixes with the sulfuric acid to make the pressure.  Leonard answered much better.

I think they used sulfuric acid and water which were mixed and created CO2 which was used to put out the fire.

Here is a 1934 Ford, I believe a chemical wagon, in apparent original unrestored condition, marked "Ridgeway" on the side.  It's owned by Bill Sondermeyer of Newfoundland NJ, one of our first aid squad members and son of a past chief of Bloomingdale NJ Fire Department.  Each year on the 4th of July Bill and his wife host over 100 guests at their isolated country home for a super picnic to celebrate America's birthday.   Bill is also president of Five Star Fire Protection, Inc., which installs and maintains fire sprinklers throughout NJ, NY, PA and CT.

Yes John, wherever it goes, the fork truck goes too.
The rescue truck itself, has no removable pods or units that require a forktruck, unlike the chemical/incident response trucks, BUT, there are a large number of "high volume traffic" roads nearby, and these are needed to unload burning trucks, and/or assisting when a truck overturns.
Some fire depts in the north of england, actually have american wreckers too!

They run that as their regular piece with the fork lift on the back?

BOB & THE BLONDE

ATT00001.jpg

Bob, a handsome dude, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 pm. He sat down next to a blonde at the bar and stared up at the TV.

The 10 pm news was coming on.  The news crew was covering the story of a man on the ledge of a large building preparing to jump.

ATT00002.jpg

The blonde looked at Bob and said, "Do you think he'll jump?"

Bob said, "You know, I bet he'll jump.."

The blonde replied, "Well, I bet he won't."

Bob placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, "You're on!"

ATT00003.jpg

Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off the building, falling to his death.

The blonde was very upset, but willingly handed her $20 to Bob, saying, "Fair's fair.  Here's your money."

ATT00004.jpg

Bob replied, "I can't take your money.  I saw this earlier on the 5 pm news, and so I knew he would jump."

The blonde replied, "I did too, but I didn't think he'd do it again."

Bob took the money.....

On July 11, Port Jervis NY is again scheduled to host its annual Fire Department Inspection Parade consisting of guest companies and bands from NY, NJ, PA and possibly beyond.  The parade begins at 2 pm.   This is the oldest known continuously conducted annual firemen's parade in the United States as research by Ripley's Believe It Or Not confirmed in the 1960's with it never being cancelled or postponed until another day, something that has continued at least through 2008.   The first parade was in 1850 which would make this year's edition the 160th annual however somebody in Port Jervis advertises it as 159th forgetting that the first one in a year ending with zero should be counted as number one.
Here is a link to a Webshots album showing much of last years parade created by joeyves, I believe a member of Scoresby Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Ellenville NY:

How wide is the inside bracket? looks as if it could hold a rolled up length of hose. I seen this before on ships. Tyr to locate a vintage photo of the rig (in service) or ask someone from the department that it came from.

Ok, hopefully, some one here will know what this bracket was for.

Hi all,

A fellow MAFAA (Mass Chapter) member approached me this month at our parade/show wondering what these brackets were mounted inside the body of his fire truck. They are in the catwalk at the rear of the body that leads to the benchseat behind the cab.

We guessed it was possibly flashlights or Wheat lights seeing as though someone might want to grab one just before they leave the apparatus. Does anyone have any other guesses? Its a 1960's vintage Maxim S model formerly from Worcester, MA.

I promised I would find out for him. I posted it in some other websites and neglected to here (Sorry Ralph!)
