Meeting Description

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research into Ancient Languages and Early
Stages of Modern Languages of the Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic
is going to organize a conference on the ancient IE languages (Greek,
Latin, Gothic, Old Slavonic etc.) and the early modern languages seen from
the perspectives of modern linguistics.

The conference will be held from the 28h (Sunday) of September to the 1st
(Wednesday) of October 2008.

The conference organizers welcome all papers on subjects from any area of
the historical linguistics (e.g. phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax,
semantics, pragmatics, dialects) which can be included in one of the
following sections of the conference:
a) Mycenaean, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Byzantine and early Modern
Greek; other IE languages of the early Aegean and Balkan area.
b) Archaic, Classical and Vulgar Latin; other IE languages of the ancient
Italy and the early Western Mediterranean area.
c) Early stages of the modern Romance, German and Slavonic languages,
including Czech.
The talk should last ca. 20 minutes. There will be a ten-minute discussion
following each paper.

1st Call for Papers

Abstract Submission:
Deadline: 30 December 2007

The abstracts should not contain more than 200 words (up to 10 lines);
languages: English, French, German, Italian.

Contributions will be chosen by the organizing committee on the basis of
the abstracts submitted.

Acceptance notification will be sent until the 15th of March 2008.

Participants: 80 E
Students, accompanying persons: 40 E

Payment could be made by bank transfer until the 30th of May 2008. The

Participation fees include: Proceedings of the Conference, free meals (as
will be specified in the conference programme), refreshment during the

Participation fees do not include hotel booking and payment. The organizing
