I'm a new user. I've no experience with laying out pc boards but
found it easy (despite the expected first time mistakes) to import a
netlist from TinyCad and layout a 3"x5" board. Very nice program!
Design error check now shows no errors so I am ready to generate
Gerber and Drill files, but I am unfamiliar with the requirements of
the board manufacturer, PCBFabExpress. They require a Fabrication
Print specifying material type and finished thickness of the board,
finished copper weight, board dimensions and outline, cut outs or slot
information (don't have any), board construction information. They
also require the drill file be in Excellon format, the Gerber file be
one to one and 274-X, not 274-D, and a Fabrication Drawing with all
construction notes on it. For low cost boards all holes must be plated.
Can I generate a fabrication print with FreePCB? Is this just a
drawing of the board? How do I determine the copper weight? What is
"board construction information?" Does FreePCB generate drill files in
Excellon format? Are the Gerber files one to one and 274-X type? Is a
fabrication drawing the same as a fabrication print? What construction
notes are they expecting? The only holes I have specified are pads for
soldering parts, or vias (2 layer board). Am I correct in guessing
this fulfills their "all holes plated" requirement? Their technical
help people just referred me to their on line glossary which was not
much help.
