I always use the 700 field for the author’s “extra”
names, whether it’s the real one or the pseudo one that goes there.
Right now I’m cleaning up our database, and updating author entries to
conform with current guidelines, and I find that I’m having to add a lot
of 700s to take care of this problem. But I think it’s better to have
these access points than to leave the patrons wondering why the book isn’t
listed under the only name they know to look it up under. (Bad grammar, but
please forgive, it’s been a tough week). It’s a lot easier to add
a 700 field to a record, than to hope that the substitute working that day (or
the librarian for that matter) knows to explain why the names are different for
the same book.
Just my 25 cents worth (figuring in inflation).
