Description
Discussion forum for people interested in the Fungi of the British Isles and Ireland.
(This forum is for those primarily interested in fungi per se, not just eating them!)
As well as the more familiar larger fungi, discussion is also welcomed on microfungi including rusts, smuts, mildews (powdery and downy) and the amazing biodiversity of ascomycetes that parasitise living, and recycle dead, plant material in all its forms.
"Fungi" is here interpreted in the broad sense to include Myxomycetes (slime moulds) and Oomycetes (downy mildews and relatives) etc which are scientifically classified with protozoa and algae, respectively.
Photos may be uploaded into the "Photos" area. If you're submitting photos for identification purposes, please give us a fair chance by showing the underside as well! They often look a bit similar from above...
People are encouraged to retain voucher specimens for things they photograph, ideally dried on a mushroom/fruit drier or radiator. Then if it turns out to be a significant find, the material can be forwarded to one of the national collections.
All photos and other attachments are automatically removed from email messages to prevent the spread of viruses.
