Founded in August 2007, the Greater Tehachapi Astronomy Club was created to foster amateur astronomy in Tehachapi, California, and surrounding communities. The GTAstronomyClub group is our way of sharing information and organizing activities. The Calendar lists local astronomy events. Check out the database of local observing sites. Do any of you folks get together to observe?
Or is there any GTA star parties? I visit Tehachapi every month or so (was raised there) and was just curious about that.

Bob, You have received some good feedback already. I'd add that you could consider a Barlow instead of a 3.5mm eyepiece. The Barlow adds a multiplication

Here's my take; It's a rule of thumb I use. For every doubling of magnification you use, starting with about 4x per inch, you will use it half as much.

Bob, This isn't going to be a short or easy answer. According to Orion's specifications for their XT8 Dobsonian the "Highest Useful Magnification" is 300X.
