Yes I do stick to native apps and strictly limit software customization in order
to be able to
port my organization easily when there is a change of hardware or software. I
came to that
conclusion after I realized that a given set up seldom stays unchanged for more
than 6
months or a year, and the more customization has been done, the more painful it
is to
port it to a new set up.
In the last 6 months alone, I changed department and company IT policy evolved,
so my
work e.mail system changed twice, the PC organizer software changed twice also
and I got
a PPC to replace a Palm! I was VERY happy to have implemented a system using
basic
functions, as I moved my personal organization to the new system without
headache.
Sticking to standard functions still allows for a good effectiveness. For
instance I use a lot
the search function with some codes to streamline my processes. This is portable
to
almost any system as the search function is universal.
In a word, I try and stay on standard systems and functions but use them with
user - not
software - customization.
Cheers
Eric
