The Adam Dashpoint

This one is a drive by off the A414, which is Junction 7 off the M11 just to the
south of Cambridge.

I had to be in the company offices and an overnight stop with a team meal, and
there are roadworks on the M1, so I decided to use my alternative route down the
A1(M) and M11 to the M25 (known by some as the largest circular car park in
Europe due to the delays that build up on it at times) and I calculated that it
wouldn't take me too far off my route to get to this dashpoint.

Parking up in a lay-by, I walked to within 5 metres of the dashpoint, which is
in the grass by the side of the road.

The reason for the name of this dash is that, just behind the lay-by and within
scoring range, is a memorial to someone called Adam. These roadside shrines
appear at the side of many roads around the UK, usually commemorating the death
of someone near the spot and although the full story wasn't told in the
dedications I guess this is a more permanent and officially sanctioned one.
Most of the others I have seen seem to consist of bunches of flowers and cards
tied to fencing, trees lamp posts etc.

There has been some discussion as to why these are more common now. One
explanation seems to be that, with the increase in cremations, lack of spaces
for memorial stones and fewer people in the UK being particularly religious,
that families are now more likely to put these roadside shrines up to their
loved ones who die in accidents on the roads.

Anyway, RIP Adam, whoever you were.

3 points to En Dash! and Morseman please.
