Finally, I have some time to write up the logs for the two DPs we reached during
our vacation in the Washington, D.C, area. It always amazes me (although at
this point in my life, it ought not do so) how long it can take to unpack from a
long trip. Of course, most of our trips are comparatively close to home, so we
can travel a little lighter. This time, we had much more clothing along, all of
which needed washing upon our return, a chore which had to take precedence over
DP reports. A big pile of mail was waiting for us, much of which required
opening sooner rather than later. Books needed shelving, whether taken along
for reading on the plane, or purchased on the trip, as did a not-insignificant
pile of souvenirs, many of them Barbie-related. Sharon's attendance at the 50th
Anniversary bash for this venerable-but-ageless doll was, after all, the raison
d'etre for this trip.

But most of the above has been accomplished :-) I sent off answers last night
for a number of the virtual caches that we got on our trip: Washington, and
Gettysburg, PA, have a very large number of these, and we got as many as we
could, at least until our feet would no longer tolerate more walking on the
National Mall. We greatly enjoyed our time in The District, and the two days in
Baltimore before that, but it was time to come home, and we are glad to be back
on The Left Coast, where the humidity is dramatically lower, even though the
temperatures can get a lot higher, where tobacco is not used in anything like
the amount that it is in the Mid-Atlantic States, and where mass transit is so
far behind the Atlantic Seaboard that I despair of ever seeing a system in L.A.
that is one-tenth as good as that in either D.C. or Baltimore. The good and the
bad must balance out, eh?

We picked up this dashpoint on the one day we rented a car; I wasn't kidding
about mass transit: we didn't need a car at all to get around Washington. We
were taking a day-trip to Gettysburg National Military Park, and this DP was
pretty-much right on our route. Because we are not familiar with things here, I
missed the right-hand turn off MacArthur Blvd onto Dunrobbin Drive. Never even
saw the street sign, but when the GPSr arrow started pointing well to our right,
I knew we had gone too far. So I turned right onto Bannockburn, and then made
two more rights, bringing us to the "back" of this small development. I then
turned right on Wagner; I'd already scored from Barr Road, so it didn't really
matter, and it gave me something different to write about, as Jack Frickey had
scored this from Vorlich Lane. Our closest was across the street from 6211
Wagner, a yellow two-storey clapboard with white trim. This DP is 8.39
miles/13½ kilometers straight-line from our hotel, but we drove 11 or 12 miles
before scoring.

This is the third state in which we've gotten a DP, joining CA and WA.

Wherever you went, there you were. Had a wonderful lunch and chat with BOB!! a
couple of days later, and I "apologized" for poaching a point from him. But as
he *still* hasn't gotten this, maybe I needn't have done so ;-)
