Put Team Trailblazers on the fast list. I hit GD3-0268 at 10 a.m.
CDT this morning (9/1/01).

Being only 24 miles from home with mostly interstate driving, I took
my boys out with me. It was also apparent from the Mapblast maps
that this was in a subdivision of a little town in Northeast Illinois
named Diamond (right next to Coal City - what were the city planners
thinking?!?).

Diamond is a little one horse town, with a gas station on the exit
ramp of I-55 (gas is currently $1.879 for regular unleaded), a Dairy
Queen Brazer and a Casey's General Store. Right across from the DQ
is a little road named Redmond Road that goes down south for a block
and turns east into another street. At that intersection is a little
1000 sq ft ranch with an adjoining empty lot. I stopped and pulled
up to the mailbox, at which point I was 68.4 feet from the
dashpoint. Sorry - no camera this time, but suffice it to say, I do
believe I still have the most BORING dashpoints in the US (maybe the
world, Peter?). Afterwards, my two boys and I headed out for the I&M
Canal Cache up I-55.

I also gave some thought to an enhancement to the game: what about
after reaching a dashpoint, the Geodasher gets to rate the terrain
using the Geocaching Terrain Rating System. It can be found here:

Using this criteria, I would have to give this dashpoint a ½ star for
terrain, being handicapped accessible - and not even having to get
out of the car.

Just musing. Bottom line: score GD3-0268 for Markwell on Team
Trailblazers.
