After the miserable showing of my last Geodashing efforts, I felt the
need for redemption. I joined "Team Trailblazers" (did we agree on
that name BunkerDave?) and downloaded the waypoints early this
morning.
Lo and behold! One of the waypoints is only 10 GPS-miles from my
work.
At lunch, I set off for GD2-293. This waypoint is located in the
Western Chicago suburbs just North of North Avenue (Route 64) and
East of Addison Avenue near the town of Lombard. After finding a
nearby Target store (I didn't have a camera with me so I picked up a
disposable one), I followed Mapblast's driving instructions and
turned down a little side street named "Harvard Avenue." On that
road, the GPS actually took me within 100 feet, but that wasn't good
enough for my own redemption - I was still too far East for the
actual spot.
I backtracked and went into the little strip mall slightly West of
Harvard Avenue and went to the delivery area on the side of an Ammes
store. Driving along the wall, I found that the actual waypoint was
inside the store, roughly 30-45' inside the outside wall. I then
positioned my GPSR to get the smallest footage reading, and snapped
several pictures of the GPSR reading "Distance of 42.1' and need to
go West." I also have several photos of the strip mall and the Ammes
store, and will post a few shortly.
I feel better.
Score one hit for "Team Trailblazers"
