Hi Everyone! I know that I have not talked much on the list here but
thought to tell you about these so called "Break Away Collars" I just
had gotten my meat goat for our county fair in Aug. I have had him
for about a month and he was like my lil baby.Every day when I go up
to the farm and feed the animals I hear the sheep and the goats
screaming at the top of their lungs for food. When you walk into the
barn to the right we have the Nubians and the LaManchas across from
there is the meat goats. Whenever I walk into the barn Montgomery my
meat goat goes flying over the fence to be with me (VERY BAD HABBIT)
This morn I walked into the barn and no Montgomery. I as like ok
where is he then. Two other meat goats that were in the pen with him
were laying right by the door where they never lay. I reached into
the pen to see where my baby was and he was hanging there stuck on
the latch by his collar!! I was screaming MONTGOMERY and my mom came
running into the barn. I put my hand under his chest to life him up
then I broke the "Break Away" collar. I let the other two goats out
and they were running around the barn and we got Montgomery outside
and put him on a bale of straw. My mom being a nurse and all we tried
CPR but we got nothing. Tears were all over my face and I had to just
hold my baby dead. Montgomery died because he snapped his neck and he
collar did not break away. So needless to say these "BREAK AWAY"
collars dont work all the time. You could tell that he tried to get
away because there was a struggle. This year I have learned many
things with all my animals. From the three baby lambs that died to
Montgomery. Everyone this is a word of advice with the break away
collars. Some times they dont break away.
