This site is an official site of the Haplogroup G Project. The project is the collaborative effort of a number of persons.
Detailed information about the project, over 3000 G samples and information about G migrations, bibliography, etc. available at
https://sites.google.com/site/haplogroupgproject/
Y-DNA is passed from a father to his biological sons almost unchanged. Occasionally a mutation called a SNP will develop. This will be passed to all male descendants of the man with the mutation. This allows grouping of men based on multiple shared SNPs that have developed. Subgroups within haplogroup G are given alternating letters and numbers, such as G2a3b1.
The mutations that define the early stage of haplogroup G developed as much as 50,000 years ago. Descendants in deep ancestry were living primarily as a small family group in Turkey, Iran or the Middle East. G samples as old as 7000 yrs ago have been found in European skeletal remains.
The newsletter is published irregularly, but at least once a month. This site is not configured to receive postings. Those wishing to post messages should participate at one of the haplo G discussion groups at Yahoo, Rootsweb, 23orMe, DNA-Groups or Facebook.
The administrator of the project, Ray Banks, can be contacted at
dnagrouper@gmail.com. I welcome significant news items pertaining to haplogroup G related subjects that have been overlooked.
