HABA = good, supporting “link-spam” and creating links through HABA website to
companies that we don’t know anything about = bad. It appears that their
text-based ads usually link to legitimate companies, but not necessarily
companies that we would be proud to partner with.

Should HABA sell advertising space to Linkstar UK, Ltd. on the HABA website?
This is in line with our policy and will help us raise revenue. They will place

The ad will be in 2-3 sentences to ensure that it will match the topic of the

Hello all,
My name is Joseph Cautilli. I am a behavior analyst and have been one for about
20 years. I was interested in this list and thought I would join. I have done a
lot of things in my 20 years, including finnding 7 online journals in behavior
analysis and helping Pa to develop a licensing process for behavior specialist
which allows all behavior analysts to be members. Recently, I started a petition
to add behavior analysis to the health care bill. The petition is at:

Check it out. I look forward to the discussion

Looks like we have a possible "advanced session" - now we need to arrange for an
"easier session" with the people we have on board.
I would like to propose the following workshop -
An overview of ABA Teaching Methodologies: An Introduction
HABA members (would prefer BCBA or BCABA to do - but I am begging so everyone
welcome) would do a 10 to 12 minute presentation on one or more ABA teaching
methodologies that they are most fluent in.
Discrete trail Teaching
Direct Instruction
Pivot Response Training
Natural Environment Training
Verbal Behavior - maybe need 20 minutes
Precision Teaching
Antecedent Based Interventions
Imitation Training (modeling)
Incidental Teaching
Task Analysis and Chaining
Generalization and Maintenance
Each present would:
Keep presentation to 10 to 12 minutes
Define and explain the specific methodology
Review terminology that is associated with the methodology
Provide an example of the appropriate application of the methodology
Develop a methodology cheat sheet with key components and resources list.
We would need 11 presenters - and people would need to meet the week prior to
the conference to do a dry run of their presentations.
Please let Cheryl and Jessie if you are okay with this as a presentation topic
I am open to other suggestions - if you have another suggestion - we are open to
hear it.

BEHP 1012: It Is Not All About Reinforcement or Is It? Discriminating between
Motivating Operations and Discriminative Stimuli: A Conceptual Analysis of the
Operant Four-term Contingency
By: Jose A. Martinez-Diaz, Ph.D., BCBA-D
Webinar Date: September 12th, 10:00 am EDT
CEU Credits
· Three Type 2 BACB® CEU Credits
Webinar Format:
· Broadcast live over the internet in one three-hour webinar. Students
are able to view the lecturer live, and can ask questions, giving them the same
experience as a traditional class. All that is needed is a computer with better
than dial up internet connection and sound.
Discriminating between motivating operations (MOs) and discriminative stimuli is
a critical skill that can make the difference between designing effective or
ineffective interventions. Unfortunately, many have found the topic obtuse or
daunting. This presentation provides explicit instruction on the topic by using
every day examples and other heuristic techniques. The difference between MOs
related to reinforcement and MOs related to punishment, and the difference
between unconditioned MOs and the various types of conditioned MOs will be
emphasized.
BEHP 1014: Figuring Out Why Johnny Tantrums when Asked to Do Something and what
to Do about It: The Role of Motivating Operations and Discriminative Stimuli in
the Assessment and Treatment of Socially-Mediated Escape/Avoidance Problem
Behavior
By: Jose A. Martinez-Diaz, Ph.D., BCBA-D
Webinar Date: TBD
Problem behavior maintained by socially-mediated negative reinforcement almost
always is evoked by an establishing operation (EO) for negative reinforcement.
It is critical for behavior analysts to identify the specific unconditioned
EO(s) and reflexive conditioned EO(s) that are functionally related to the
problem behavior. In addition, the discriminative stimuli that play a role in
evoking the problem behavior should be identified. Failure to do so may result
in ineffective treatment and/or in the use of punishment-based procedures. This
presentation provides flowcharts, tables, and many case studies to assist the
ABA practitioner to identify these antecedent variables and incorporate them in
treatment plans.
NOTE: Mastery of the material in the first presentation on MO's listed above is
highly recommended for those enrolling in this second presentation on MO's.
BEHP 1016: Why People Often Make Bad Choices and What to Do about It: Important
Features of Combined Schedules of Reinforcement
By: F. Charles ("Bud") Mace, Ph.D., BCBA-D with Jose A. Martinez-Diaz, Ph.D.,
BCBA-D
Webinar Date: TBD
This presentation provides an updated model of the discriminated operant that
takes into account combined schedules of reinforcement, behavioral contrast,
behavioral momentum, the matching law, motivating operations, and contextual
variables. The implications of this model for assessment and treatment are
emphasized. In addition, the topics of resistance to change and persistence, as
they relate to these variables, are presented.
BEHP 1018: A Behavioral Approach to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD)
By: F. Charles ("Bud") Mace, Ph.D., BCBA-D with Jose A. Martinez-Diaz, Ph.D.,
BCBA-D
Webinar Date: To be offered in September
This presentation first covers the nature of ADHD, the importance of accurate
diagnosis, developmental characteristics of ADHD, the relationship between ADHD
and other psychiatric conditions, and biological etiologies and other risk
factors for ADHD, and pharmacological and other conventional treatment of
children with a diagnosis of ADHD. Secondly, the presentation covers a
behavioral model for treatment of these children that emphasizes self-management
strategies. Research studies providing evidence of the latter treatment approach
is provided.
BEHP 1020: Basing Treatment on the Real Cause of the Problem: Function-Based
Treatments
By: F. Charles ("Bud") Mace, Ph.D., BCBA-D & Jose A. Martinez-Diaz, Ph.D.,
BCBA-D
Webinar Date: TBD
This presentation begins by providing a review of the major behavioral functions
and the function-based model of intervention. Then, a conceptual framework for
designing function-based interventions, which includes important considerations
when designing and implementing function-based interventions, is presented. The
importance of being proactive is emphasized.

From Christine Walton -
Hi All,
One challenge I faced when conducting FAs in the natural environment
is the setting itself. Often times challenging behaviors occur at
school, on the bus, in a day program, in the shopping center, etc,
where it may be instrusive to simply observe let alone conduct
experimental manipulations. Also if you are conducting manipulations
you either need a data collector or 'video' tape sessions, which can
present additional challenges regarding consent. I can see it being
more feasible in a home setting or an environment which is set up for
behavioral assessments...
