It works for me.
You should see the following in you hermes.ini file
[Smtp Server Access - Banned Domains]
0=Casino-on-net.com
1=0mm.net
2=sandbox.com
Summary in English:
Question was: Need a simpler guide than the PDF ... Hermes is running but do not know how to config.
Answer: a. Go to the console and review step by step the option in
"Setup" and "Accounts". b. You have to understand DNS requirements for
smtp to work properly, specially MX record for your domain name.

Translated and simplified question: Is it possible to use one hermes-server and have accounts from various domains hosted?
My best try: I do not use it that way, as I understand it does
support that, with the only limitation of not being able to have the
same user name in differents domains. So you cannot create
different mailboxes for juan@... and juan@... .
Hope this helps.

I know from personal experience that I have run NOCC web mail
(http://nocc.sourceforge.net/) with apache 1.2.x and PHP 3.x with
Hermes. Its been a while so NOCC's requirements might have changed. I
don't think PHP 4 will be a problem, in fact if your running 3 you
should consider upgrading for security reasons.

Interesting...I'm running Hermes & my Apache webserver on a Win2K box.
I'll see what I can do with this.

I already finished my project with this topic but I
used windows as the OS and PHPtriad. you should
delete the sign ";" in front the
;extension=php_imap.dll
then save the change
I read the function manual at www.phpbuilder.com, if
we installed MySQL, APACHE and PHP seperatelly(not
PHPtriad)an Linux OS we have to download the c-client
first from ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/imap/
but I don't know the detail of the installation,I
suggest you to read the manual of IMAP function of
phpbulider.com,it explain more details about the
installation an configuration.
all you need to make your form processing work is just
add the c-client then the imap function can connect to
HERMES server.
maybe, it has been late for me to reply your mail. but
I hope this can help.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Need some help, I'm a Newbie at all this so bear with me. I have a
Apache server, Mysql and PHP setup on my local machine. I'm now using
Hermes Server for testing of my form processing. What exactly do I
need in my PHP.INI file to get this working correclty? It appears
that I'm having RECEIVE ERRORS. The send seems to be working, I
think. I just want all this to work on my Localhost, nothing else.
Can anyone help a new guy understand this.. Thanks for any info...
Alex,
Thanks for the assistence. The reboot did the trick. Another application was
eating ALL of the memory and it choked Hermes. It's running fine again. I
appreciate the prompt help!
Kyle

Kyle,
This error usually is a system out of resources thing.
Do you get this error when you start the server right after a reboot?
Do you get this error is you stop all non-essential services and applications?

Any ideas on why this is happening? I have ruled out a firewall
issue. I'm running 1.4.2.8 ML service version.

If you are looking for a free DNS solution that will automatically
update your IP go here http://webpage1.net/webpage1/ and click on the
little silver logo that says NoIp ( just under where it says Run your
own web site direct from your computer, in the red box) I use this
all the time with Hermes Email Server you can get 5 free web
addresses example www.youname.hopto.com I have had my free account
with them for 2 years now and find this the best solution of them all
and it is all free with no catches

It took me a while to figure that out. I was using smtp and pop
prefixes to localhost.
It also appeared that I had to let my firewall allow Hermes to act
as a server, even when not connected to anything else.
Finally, since I was trying to send mail from a java servlet, I also
had to let my firewall allow tomcat to act as a server, along with
other javax attempts to reach the internet.
As I loosened things up, I finally found trace files showing that
Hermes was getting contacted.
Thanks for your help.

If you are using outlook express both of your mail servers should be setup as 127.0.0.1 for local mail testing.

I've tried touching Hermes by setting up Outlook express accounts for smtp.localhost and pop.localhost, but apparently that is not enough to get the test moving.

I'm running Hermes 1.3.0.5 in a school to handle internal email - dummy domain
I've noticed that the smtp agent is sitting there with 5 open messages. These open messages never go anywhere and I think they are responsible for preventing the pop and smtp servers from working correctly.
USers tell me they have errors sending and receiving mail.
I find that if I make the smtp agent inactive then the errors sending and receiving mail go away. however I'd like to solve the problem properly. What are these 5 open messages? What is the real function of the smpt agent?
hermes.
En fin, que me gustaría intercambiar opiniones.
Chao
I’ve been using hermes as smtp relay software to an
internal exchange server with great success. I need to know if there is maybe
a plug-in for hermes where I can use the software to retrieve mail from a
fetch-all (pop) mailbox at an ISP and then redistribute to an internal exchange
server.
