Model PTM-1812
Femto Tech Handheld Tritium in Air monitor.
Picked this up for a good price, had dead batteries and a bad IC inside. The factory fixed it all up and tested it for me, new batteries etc for a good price.
Pictures here:
Also have another unit, made by Scintrex, Model 209KM which looks like all is OK with it.
Both Tritium-in-air monitors have an internal pump that sucks in air trough a spigot, which in turn can be hooked up to a flexible tube to draw air in from outside the vehicle.
The Femto Tech uses single chamber technology, which does not reject gamma rays, but the Scintrex uses dual chamber technology and is supposed to reject gammas just fine.
As time allows, I will test these instruments to see what they WILL and WILL NOT respond to.
Doubtful that we will ever find and tritium in the air, but one never knows. It's been said that all landfill runoff water contains some, left over from broken discarded EXIT signs.....We will see.
Meantime they will make great demo units for the Advanced Technology Center.
Some other rather different units just in are made by a company called TRACERCO. The Model, T201 and Model T202 are both INTRINSICALLY SAFE, which means they can be used in explosive atmospheres.

a strange looking gadget, but I can see where it might be handy for certain applications.
