Peltier Cloud Chamber
HI,
This is the Cloud Chamber I have built in about 2 weeks, I tried to
keep it as simple as possible without using dry ice. This runs on 12
volts Dc 6.5-7amps , ice water, 50% alcohol mixed with 50% H2O on
felt inside the top of the chamber, and high voltage DC set to 600
VDC to help clear the chamber but not needed.
• PELTIER
CP1-12730
Imax 30(A),Umax 15.4(V),Tmax 68, Qmax 270.5
62.0mm x 62.0mm x 3.8 m
Used thermal silicone compound
• HEAT SINK
5"X4"X2" High
With (4) .250 dia. Holes drilled thru under where the peltier sits
also the holes are spot drilled,.5 deep .312 dia. For tubing and
manifold. No room for fittings, the copper tubes for the manifold
are pressed in, super glued and Epoxied, it makes a very tight solid
seal with no leaks.
A cold plate sits on the top of the Peltier.,Insulation is built up
to 3/8" above the Peltier.and all copper and heat sink is wrapped
with foil insulation to keep the heat sink as cool as possible.
• The Chamber
3.5" x 3.5" x 4" High with copper plate on top.
• The Pump
To circulate the ice water, I'm using a garden pump
250 GPH with 5/8" inside dia. Output to feed the (4) .250 dia. Holes.
Here are the Latest Temperatures:
• Water
-4 Degrees Celsius Next time I will add a little Na CI to the water
to see if I can achieve a lower temp.
• Top of Chamber
Copper Plate 21 Degrees Celsius
Cold plate top with a layer of black electrical tape, Ice water
circulating, no chamber, and no power to Peltier 0 Degrees Celsius.
Cold plate top same as above ,Except power added 12 Vdc 7 amps after
20 minutes -54 Celsius ,- 65 Degrees Fahrenheit and no chamber.
• Cold plate top
As above But under load (with chamber) -38 Degrees Celsius
• Radium watch hand
When I ran the test I seen Ionizing trails within 8 minutes
Pictures are under Photos in this Group (Peltier Cloud Chamber)
.
I will continue to test this chamber for improvements and post them.
I would like to thank everyone for their help especially Markus,
Eric and Geo.
Regards,
Jim & Jeannette.
